Alcatraz was once a prison, but then it became a tourist attraction. Now, a group of Marines gone bad have based themselves there to prepare an attack on the citizens of San Francisco. It's up to a chemical weapons expert named Dr. Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage) and John Patrick Mason (Sean Connery), the only man to escape Alcatraz alive, to save the city from attack.
