Top 10 Cartoons of my life

This is my top 10 list of animated tv characters that stole my heart.

I have been interested in animation my entire life. I have always been fascinated with the whole fictional pen and ink world. When the new milenium started, the world of animation was completely ruined by a little thing called computer animation! Now a days, regular animation does not exist anymore thanks to computer animation. This is an article about the Top 10 animated series that stole my heart and changed my life forever making me who I am today. Please note that all of these are TV shows. Not movies, not video games, TV shows! Also note that these are all shows from the 90's, which is where my real childhood took place.

#10 - Kablam!

Nickelodeon has had quite a handful of original series that they called 'Nicktoons'. Most of them were not really that interesting, but this one was quite unique. In this show, Henry and June host a comic book and bring it to life. This featured various different types of shows with different types of animation. This included regular animation, claymation and chuck-a-mation (namely, "Action League Now!"). This show has earned my reccomendation to people who are interested in getting a career in the animation business.

#9 - Aaahh! Real Monsters

Do you believe in monsters? Do you know why they come out at night and scare you? Well, as you may have already learned in "Monsters Inc.", that's their job. It's also what they do in school. This show is about the life of three main monsters: Ickis (the little nervous one who is often mistaken for a rabbit), Oblina (the smart one who camouflages really well) and Krumm (the big stinky one who holds his own eyeballs). I don't remember much about this series, since it's been so long since I've seen it, but I remember it being pretty entertaining to watch.

#8 - Pokemon

Yes, believe it or not, Pokemon is on my list. I think that the TV series was very well made, and the concept of the whole idea was very original. I remember when Pokemon was the big craze, and I was one of the kids who got suckered into it. Pokemon got it's popularity mainly from the most popular Pokemon characters (namely Pikachu and Charizard). When it was first introduced in 1998, there were only 150 Pokemon species, but now, there are close to about 400. I am a little dissappointed that Pokemon went away just as the Power Rangers and the Ninja Turtles did (but the Ninja Turtles have been making quite a comeback lately). I'm sure there are plenty of surviving Pokemon fans out there. I still have my Gameboy game (THE ORIGINAL!), which I play seldomly for historical purposes. Pokemon still rules!

#7 - Sonic the Hedgehog

Everyone knows Sonic, the blue speedy hedgehog. He's always been cool. Sometime in the 1990's, he had two different TV series. One was "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog", which was really stupid, and the other one was just called "Sonic the Hedgehog", which was a darker and more serious show. The latter was the better of the two, especially since Dr. Robotnik was a lot more sinister and less goofy. It had a very heart-warming theme song, which I still think about all the time. The picture above is not from either one of the shows, but it's actually from "Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie", which I have yet to witness. Knuckles wasn't in either show; it would have been cool if he was, though. I still want to see the new Sonic series that I keep hearing about, though I think I may have to wait until a DVD release until then.

#6 - Animaniacs

Now, this is what I call retro! Probably one of the most memorable cartoons of the 90's is "Animaniacs". This variety show was created by Steven Spielberg, and I believe this was his follow-up to his successful "Tiny Toon Adventures" series. Who doesn't love this show? Yakko, Wakko and Dot are such hillarious characters. They never fail to make me laugh. The other characters on this show who get their own shows within this show are not quite as interesting as the Warners though. The only ones who came really close were Pinky and the Brain. Overall, it's such a great series, and I reccomend it to all.
#5 - CatDog

Hi Ho Diggety! Here's another unique show of Nickelodeon's. Although this one didn't become quite as popular as "Rugrats" or "Spongebob Squarepants", it's still one of my favorites. CatDog is basically about two brothers who are attached to each other; one is a cat, and the other is a dog. Cat is a well-behaved individual who is smart and sensitive, and Dog is a lovable happy-go-lucky character who has basically the same traits as a typical dog. There are other characters on this show who are quite interesting, and you'll learn to love them. Watch this show, and you'll learn the many advantages and disadvantages of being attached to someone.

#4 - Timon & Pumbaa

Based on Disney's huge hit movie, "The Lion King", this series goes way outside the realms of the movie. Timon and Pumbaa now go to different places around the world and somehow seem to know more about stuff other than African wildlife. I would have enjoyed the series a little more if Simba (as a cub) was in the series too, but this show still gives you plenty of laughs. The theme song to this show was (you guessed it) "Hakuna Matata". These guys really made that phrase as popular as it is today. I consider this cartoon to be one of those "feel good shows"; no matter what kind of a mood you're in, this show will always give you pleasure.

#3 - Digimon

Some people think that Digimon is a rip-off on Pokemon, but it's not, it's totally different. The characters on Digimon have personalities that anyone could love. For those of you who aren't familiar, the Digimon story is about seven kids who go to summer camp and all end up in a world that nobody else knows about called the Digital World. They meet these monsters known as Digital Monsters, and they all become close friends. They were all brought to this world to save it from evil Digimon who will soon destroy other worlds including their world. If you want to get initiated into Digimon, I reccomend watching only the first season from beginning to end. It's a true classic. You can watch the second season too if you want, but don't go any further than that, for it gets boring from the third season on. I always thought Digimon were cool. Strangely, I've always been a fan of Gommamon and Palmon, who were the least popular characters, but I thought Palmon was cool and Gommamon was cute. Believe me, once you get initiated into the series, you'll love it.

#2 - The Powerpuff Girls

Some think this show is gay, but I think these girls are hot! Saving the world before bedtime, Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup are really the true heroines of our modern day. This creation of Craig McCracken's has really stolen my heart. The show is extremely funny and cute at the same time. All fans of the Powerpuff Girls has a favorite of the three. As for me, I love them all, but if I had to choose a favorite, it would have to be Bubbles. She's just too cute for words! I don't know if I should feel bad or not for being a 21-year old man who loves the Powerpuff Girls, but everyone has their own interests, and I'm proud to be a Powerpuff Girls fan! I will love them forever, and I'll never forget about them!

#1 - 101 Dalmatians

What else would I choose as my #1? "101 Dalmatians: The Series" is definately the #1 series that stole my heart and changed my life forever! This TV series is based on my all-time favorite Disney Animated Classic, and what's even better is that the puppies are the stars! Each episode is about Lucky, Cadpig, Rolly, and their chicken friend, Spot, either stopping Cruella De Ville from doing her dirty work, learning about the facts of life, or just plain having fun. That sounds like the life for me! Oh, how I've dreamed that I could live on Dearly Farm with those pups. Yes, I've always loved this show of Disney's, but as I've said in my article about this series, I was very dissappointed about it's short run. I've loved many great shows, but this one will always be the cream of my crop. I just hope that when I die and go to Heaven, I'll see these adorable dalmatians having brand new adventures!

And there is my Top 10 90's animated series list. It's too bad that all of these shows got cancelled (except maybe Pokemon), but all good shows must come to an end sometime. I hope you all enjoyed learning a little about me from this article, and hopefully this gave you some fond memories of the 90's.
