Honey, I Shrunk the Kids
Release: June 23, 1989
Release: June 23, 1989

Wayne Szalinski is an eccentric inventor with a world-changing invention: a ray that can shrink things. It seems nobody else sees the merit of such a machine, provided it exists. Wayne's only support it seems, is his son, Nick, a chip off the old block with just as good an eye for inventing. Even Wayne can't find the support of his wife, Diane, or his easily worried daughter, Amy. The ongoing antics of the Szalinski family often attract the attention of their next-door neighbors, Russ and Mae Thompson and their sons, Ron and Russ Jr.. One day, as things would have it, Ron accidentally activates Wayne's shrinking machine and it turns out that it works perfectly shrinking all four kids and leaving an angered and humiliated Wayne to throw them out with the garbage! They wind up in the backyard and are tasked with the simple process of walking back home to find Wayne and return to normal size. Little do they know, the yard is quite a different place when you are a quarter of an inch tall, and the few miles long journey to the back door is full of dangers including giant bees and torrents of water caused by the lawn sprinkler. Wayne and Dian are also left to realize the mistake they made and have to keep the yard safe from threats like lawnmowers while they try and find the kids themselves, not letting Russ and Mae get too worried as well.

Wayne Szalinski: "And given that my machine can substantially reduce the size of bulky payloads... And fuel supplies of the savings to the space program would be staggering."
Professor Frederickson: "Mr. Szalinski, are you trying to tell me that suddenly size is no longer relative?"
Wayne Szalinski: "Well, that's right, Professor Frederickson, and that all matter is made up of not only density but of empty space, and if we can proportionally reduce the amount of empty space in any given object, we can, thereby, shrink the object."
Professor Frederickson: "Uh-huh. Where's your proof?"
Wayne Szalinski: "When Einstein came up with the atomic bomb, did they ask him to prove that it worked?"
Professor Frederickson: "You, Mr. Szalinski, are hardly Einstein. [the audience laughs]"
Wayne Szalinski: "I picked a name."
Professor Frederickson: "You have, however, managed to shrink one thing [stands up]"
Professor Frederickson: "Gentlemen, ladies, I don't know about you, but I'm going to lunch. [leaves along with the rest]"

Donald 'Don' Forrester: "Plumbing? This isn't the Big Russ Thompson I know. Plumbing would not stop the Big Russ Thompson I know. Especially with an $80 deposit on the line?"

Although I enjoyed it, I truthfully don't remember much of it. I recall the Roger Rabbit short "Tummy Trouble" more. The VHS tape had it, but the DVD didn't.

This movie was GREAT! I wish I'd had seen it in the cinemas. I'd love to get it on DVD, though all I can find is the trilogy pack. The second movie was alright. *Shrugs.* But the third movie was absolutley TOO childish.

A friend of mine took me to this as a birthday present. It was so much fun to go to the theater, it was just the two of us plus her older sibs. The movie was funny.

I remember this was an incredible movie experience back when it was released ! The special effects are incredible for the time and the story might not be oscar worthy, but at least it's fun.
