The French Chef is a television cooking show created and hosted by Julia Child. It was one of the first cooking shows on American television. The show began with Child's special live presentation "Mastering the Art of French Cooking". The show began in 1963 and ended in 1973 but continued in reruns until 1989. The show began airing reruns again on the Cooking Channel in 2010. The show was live so bloopers and mistakes were often seen on the air, which Child often called "Teachable moments". In 1972 the show was the very first to be captioned for hearing-impaired viewers.
