Hi everybody. I thought since my last article did great, I thought I would do another video game article. No I'm not talking about more Atari 2600 and Intellivision games. This time I'm going into video games from my generation (for the most part.) Anyway, I'll start with NES games:


Heavy Shreddin'

This is one of the first few NES games I ever played. It's hard, but it's fun. What's really sad about it is that I can never get past the first level. Mainly because when I get to the bridge, I end up crashing. Anyway, I don't think there's really much anything else to say about this game. Moving on now:


Whomp 'Em

When I was a little kid, one of my relatives had an NES console that I used to play alot. Anyway, this relative of mine had Whomp 'Em for the NES. This was a game I played alot. For those of you who have never heard of it, it's basically Jaleco's (short for JApan LEisure COrporation) version of MegaMan. What you do in Whomp 'Em is you play a Native American, and you go around 8 stages (the first being a tutorial stage, the next six after that you choose from, and finally, the last stage where the final boss is a samurai warrior). After you complete a stage (excluding the tutorial), you get different power ups. If you haven't played this, you should check it out.


Super Off Road

I SO FREAKING LOVE THIS GAME!!! Anyway, this was a game I used to play alot (most of time I just played the arcade version though). There have been a few times where I have played the NES version of the game. It does get hard after a while though. The SNES version was (believe it or not) a tribute to Mickey Thompson (who was also a racer). In 1988, Mickey Thompson, and his wife were killed by two gunmen, so that's why they had him in the SNES version instead Ivan "Ironman" Stewart. Anyway there was a sequel to this game, but it wasn't as good as the first one was. Anyway before I move on, the name of the sequel was Super Off Road: The Baja. Again, it sucks!

And now, for some Game Boy games:


Tetris

Now here is a true classic. Tetris for the Game Boy. Alot of us have played this and either liked it or didn't like it. Actually I don't know why anybody wouldn't like it. It's a fun and addicting game. Here are some things about the game boy version you may or may not know: In 2 player mode The Super Mario Bros. make cameo appearances. Another thing about the game is if you play Game B, and on that one play Level 9 with 9 rows, and you beat it, you get to see a rocket launch. Good old Tetris. I can hear the A-Type music in my head, now
that I have talked about it.

Remember the good old days where could go to your local video store and rent NES, Game Boy, SNES, and Sega Genesis games? I miss those days sooooooo much. Anyway, when I was little, my dad used to rent Game Boy games for his Game Boy. Here are the ones he used to rent:


Chessmaster

Over the years, there have been many different versions of Chessmaster. And out of the different versions that came out, I have played the Game Boy version. After playing it, I realize I do suck at Chessmaster. I still like it though. Mainly because it's a game I played when I was a kid.


Alleyway

In 1976, an Arcade Game called Breakout was released. Over the years, there had been Breakout clones. Alleyway was just one of them. Aside from that, Alleyway was truly underrated. The bonus stages are fun. Because the bricks form into different characters from Super Mario Bros. It's too bad this game doesn't have power ups (like in Arkanoid).


Super Mario Land

This was Mario's first adventure on the Game Boy. It is a game that I know alot of people like. It's pretty short though. One of the villians I like is the angry hopping Chinese Vampire in world 4. It was also the first game ever to introduce Princess Daisy (believe it or not, Daisy appeared in two other games after Super Mario Land: Mario is Missing (SNES version), and Mario Tennis). This is game that if I ever got it, I would so not trade it in.


*Bart Simpson's Escape From Camp Deadly

The Simpsons: One of the hugest franchises to this day. They have Simpsons toys, Bootleg T-Shirts (or at least those came out in the early 90's), a movie, pretty much anything with The Simpsons on it. There were also Simpsons video games (two of which were reviewed by AVGN). This is Bart Simpson's Escape From Camp Deadly. It's a pretty fun sidescroller. You play Bart who gets sent to a camp owned, and operated by Ironfist Burns (obviously a relative to C. Montgomery "Monty" Burns), and go up against 3 characters that aren't from the show: Blindside Bill, Rebound Rodney, and Madman Mort. The only character from the show (Besides Bart and lisa) that appears in the game is Nelson Muntz. If you haven't played it at all you should.

*Before I go on, I forgot to mention Simpsons Escape from Camp Deadly was one I owned.

Enough GB games. And now for something completely different.

Super Mario World

The year was 1992. I was 4 years old, and my next door neighbors bought a SNES along with Super Mario World.
I honestly don't know any Mario fan who has not played Super Mario World. It is a really fun game. It was the first game ever to feature Yoshi. My most favorite part of the game would have to be going through the Ghost houses those were fun. Anyway, Super Mario World was so popular, there was some promotional material for it. I remember Shasta did Mario sodas that came in 4 different flavors: Mario (Cherry), Luigi (Blueberry), Princess Toadstool (Strawberry), and Yoshi (Green Apple). My favorite flavor was Yoshi (Green Apple). I would so like it if Shasta brought those back. Aside from that there was also a Super Mario World cartoon. I vaguely remember the Super Mario World cartoon. Maybe I'll try to see if Youtube has any episodes of it some time.


Super Mario All-Stars

This is one of my most favorites. Super Mario All-Stars. Nothing like playing 16 bit renditions of the first 3 Mario games and a game that never saw the light of day in America. That game was Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels (known in Japan as SMB: The Lost Levels). What else can I say about this? aside from the fact that it's really fun. SMB 2 (Japanese version) was hard though. I have never made to the end of that one. Other than that, this is game you should definitely have in your SNES Library.


Dino City

Here is another underrated video game. Dino City for the SNES. It's based on the movie "Adventures in Dinosaur City". As far as movie to game adaptations go, Dino City is not that bad. The idea of the game is Timmy and his friend Jamie enter Dino City after Timmy touched his dad's science device. So now Timmy and Jamie have get back the fuse that Mr. Big's gang "The Rockeys" stole from the Power Station. Timmy is guided by a T-Rex and Jamie is guided by Triceratops. It does get hard as it progresses. An example would be the ferris wheel levels. Those are hard to get past. If you haven't played Dino City you should check it out. If you're wondering, no I haven't watched the movie this game was based on. So I couldn't tell you about the movie.

Well, I could talk about other video games all day, but this is as far as I will go.
