Video games from my childhood

Games I loved when I was a little kid
December 29, 2008
Hello everybody. Today, I'm going to talk to you about video games I remember (and played) from my childhood. Alot of these games I still love to play. These are all games for the Atari 2600, and the Mattel Electronics Intellivision.

The year was 1991. I was 3 years old, and I got introduced to video games. My dad got to borrow the Intellivision system from one of his brothers for a couple weeks. Snafu was one of the first of two video games I got to play, and I liked it alot. There was another video game for INTV (short for Intellivision) that my dad got to
borrow besides Snafu. That one was...

This was another game I liked. What am I saying? I still do. Just the fact that you fight an egg, a pepper, and a hotdog trying to kill you is weird. That's what I like about it.
Moving on now:
Later that year, my next door neighbors were nice. They let me have their old Atari 2600 system, which they stopped playing after they got a SNES. There are numerous games for this system I remember playing:

Pac-Man screenshot

Yes, I know this version of Pac-Man caused the video game crash of 1983 (along with E.T. the Extra Terrestrial). But I still like it. This was my introduction to Pac-Man. Though it was not like the arcade version, it was still pretty good.

Pitfall! screenshot

This is a true classic for the 2600. If you haven't played it, here's what it is: Basically, you're Pitfall Harry, and you go through the jungle, jumping over crocodile's heads, timing your running so you don't fall into the pits, swinging on vines, among other obsticles just collect treasure. You have to collect all the pieces of treasure under 20 minutes. One thing I remember about the game is that when Harry swings on a vine he makes a noise. The first time I played this game, I couldn't figure out what that was. As it turns out, it's just Harry pretending to be Tarzan. This game is definitely in top 5 favorite.

Kaboom! screenshot
This was another game from Activision (as it says on the cartridge). As the 2600 goes, my dad hates it, but he likes Kaboom!. This was one game I used to play alot.
This was the first paddle game I played. I don't like it.

Fishing Derby

This game is pretty fun. However, after a while it gets boring. Here's why: all you do is catch fish, and watch out for the shark, because the shark will eat the fish. The goal of the game is to get 99 lbs. of fish, before the other player does. That's pretty much all I can say about this game.

Spider-Man screenshot

As mentioned, and seen on The Angry Video Game Nerd, this is Spider-Man for the Atari 2600. No matter what the nerd says, I think it's a good game. Basically what you do is you climb up the tower to defuse a bomb set by the Green Goblin. That's all you do. Sounds easy right? Well, yeah, it starts out that way. However, as the game progresses, it gets challenging, as there will be more green goblins waiting for you at the top of the tower. You can also rescue people, and get points. So if you like Spider-Man, you should check it out. It's fun.

Star Wars:The Empire Strikes Back

I played this game when I was 4 years old. At that time, I didn't know about Star Wars. In fact, I didn't watch Star Wars, until I was 9 years old. Anyway, back to talking about the game. All you do in this one is you control the rebel snow speeder, and you have to shoot all the Imperial Walkers. It's not at all an easy game. I didn't really like this game all that much, so I won't comment about it anymore.

Centipede screenshot

This is last game I'm going to talk about. This is one of my favorite Arcade games. The first time I ever played actually played Centipede was on the Atari 2600. I like it somewhat back then. Today, I love it. I didn't really play the original arcade version until I was 11 years old. Unfortunately, at that time Arcades were close to being obsolete (which really pisses me off!) Anyway I love the home version of this. One the reasons why is because when the scorpion touches a mushroom, it will not only turn one color, it will flash different colors. Enough about this game. I loved most of these games when I was litte, and I still do. So much so, that if I ever become a parent, I'm going to introduce my kid(s) to these games. I think kids today need to know about this kind of stuff. I know some already know about it, but not alot.

Well that's all. I enjoyed talking about games I played when I was a little kid. Hope you enjoyed the article.
Until next time, take it easy, and God Bless.
