Colonel Steve Austin was a top NASA pilot, critically injured when his experimental spaceplane crashed. Oscar Goldman, head of the OSI (a government organization that develops new technologies), used Austin as a test subject for an experimental procedure. His body was rebuilt using incredible cybernetic technlogy, making him the world's first bionic man. Now, Austin works for Goldman and the OSI, protecting the nation from a myriad of threats.

Oscar Goldman: "Steve Austin, astronaut. A man barely alive. Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to build the world's first bionic man. Steve Austin will be that man. Better than he was before. Better, stronger, faster. -Oscar Goldman"

I remember watching the first episode of this series and I knew it was going to be a hit. I waited each week for the new episodes and never missed this show. All us kids used to talk about he episodes at school the next day. I remember being really depressed when this show went off the air.

This was my favorite show when i was about 4 years old . I used to try to arch my eyebrow like Steve Austin. My cousin had the Steve Austin doll with the bionic arm and the bionic eye.

This show began its run when I was in kindergarten. Since that was so long ago, and they haven't shown the series in syndication ever, I have only the foggiest memories of the show. Why isn't it available on DVD? I do recall having the action figure and the lunch box.

This was a cool show. I still have the reels for the view master. I remember the last episode "The Bionic Showdown" with the Bionic woman and the new Bionic girl that happened to be the actress named Sandra Bullock.

There is no doubt in the whole wide world that Lee majors was the perfect for the starring role, BUT ... let's just say that time reversed itself and Lee was not in the mix; who would be a close second?? Simple ... Gary Lockwood (no brainer) hotter! than molten lava and perfect, perfect, perfect!

Gawd.... I was a Six Million Dollar man junkie back in the 70's. I had EVERY toy that came out.

But I got a question. I remember the Venus Space probe. It was black and had a giant grappling claw on front. It also had lasers and other cools stuff. I also seem to remember another probe that Steve Austin fought. It was a yellowish color and had some kind of an arm that would come out with a saw blade or gun on the end of it.
Steve defeated it my attaching a bent pipe to the top of it so a helicopter could lift it into a vat of acid...

Am I going crazy here? I've searched everywhere for that episode but can't find it.

Thanks for the memories of Steve Austin!!

The show spawned a number of movies-- The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman, Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman, Bionic Ever After? and a forgotten film with Sandra Bullock as The Bionic Teenager (which may have no connection to the series).

Of course, many of you will remember that the series had a spinoff called The Bionic Woman.
