VHS Collecting: How I Got Started

A look at my biggest collection ever

In the year 2007, I went to a Salvation Army store and stumbled upon a lot and I mean a lot of nostalgia when I saw a VHS of Disney's The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. Upon seeing the tape, I eventually purchased it along with another VHS tape of a Disney movie. Anyways, from that day on, I became a VHS collector.

Now eventually, I started collecting VHS tapes from other companies like Fox and Paramount. But when it comes to VHS collecting, the tapes I know how to find quicker than any other are Disney movies.

Some of the tapes I own are extremely rare like this demo tape of Pinocchio from 1992.

But the rarest tapes I have by far are two Nintendo promo tapes that were used to promote the releases of Star Fox 64 and Pokemon Red & Blue in 1997 and 1998 respectively.
With a collection of almost 300 tapes, you can only imagine what movies I have. Some of which include Toy Story, The Jungle Book, The Lion King and two box sets of the original Star Wars trilogy from 1995 and 1997.

When I joined YouTube in 2009, I began showing off my collection on YouTube and the videos I posted became more popular than I expected. I also realized that I'm not the only YouTube user who collects VHS tapes. There are literally tons of users on YouTube who collect VHS tapes.

In 2011, things took a turn for the worst, the Nintendo 3DS was just about ready to launch and I wanted one so very badly. So in order to make some money, I decided to sell my original VHS collection but I ended up donating all my tapes to Goodwill instead. Later that same year, I went back to collecting and pretty soon, I got some really rare tapes like it was nothing.

This is proof on just how big my VHS collection is
My collection is so big that I don't even have a place to put it. It's all just scattered around my house. All in all, collecting VHS tapes is the most fun I've ever had when it comes to collecting stuff.
