Hello to everybody out there on Retro Junk! This is the first article I have written on the website and I am glad to finally get a chance to share my life with all of you! This article will discuss the film series that have changed my life and changed what type of movies I watch! It is a little film series you may have heard of called Evil Dead!

This article will be divided into three parts.

Part 1: Discovery

Picture if you can a 6th grader beginning to start sinking my teeth into horror films! That was me! Around that time I had just started watching scary films such as The Blair Witch Project, Scream, Halloween, and many more! Now I have always been a huge fan of comedy! At that time I had seen and had loved the Three Stooges slapstick comedy and I heard that there would be a 75th anniversary tribute to them on NBC and I decided to watch it when it came on.

It was a great show and the classic skits had me cracking up but one section in particular really stuck in my mind. This section was showing how other films were influenced by the stooges. One of them showed a clip from Lethal Weapon but the clip that stuck out in my mind was a little clip from the film simply known as Army of Darkness!

I was amazed by the fact that someone had mixed humor and horror together! I quickly made a point to remember the name and swear to find and watched that movie. To my delight in the next couple of days I found out that Army of Darkness would be played on the SciFi channel(now called SyFy). I made a point to sit down and watch it. I loved every minute of it! I was completely blown away and I had never seen a horror comedy before that and I remembered every catchphrase and Awesome moment and took an instant liking to the main character Ash J. Williams S-Mart employee who had to cut off his possessed hand with a chainsaw and then attached it to his arm. It was also cool to see his sawed off Boomstick used throughout as well. I knew right then and there that I had to get this movie.

Part 2: Becoming a Fan
In the next couple of months I researched the film on the internet and found out that it was a third movie out of a series of films known as the Evil Dead Trilogy. My Birthday was coming up and I put these 3 films at the top of my wish list. The big day came and I was on edge if I would get these gifts or not. When my presents came I excitedly opened them up and I saw them. My parents had gotten me the trilogy. I was so excited I began to watch the first film known as The Evil Dead.

I am not going to lie on this film but when I saw it I was really scared! But I still loved the film even though not comedic like Army of Darkness it was still great! It had its own thing going for it and that was cool! Then after that I watched Evil Dead 2.

This is the film that kicked ass! It blended the horror from the first film and the comedy from the third. It was absolutely perfect and it also set up the coolest parts of the series like the chainsaw and the boomstick combo and let's not forget the great lines(Groovy). This even surpassed Army of darkness and is probably my favorite film of all time! I never get tired of watching it over and over again!

Part 3:The Influence

When I finally converted from dial up to DSL in 2005 and got a new computer I had faster internet and I was able to find out how big of a fan base there really was for this series and I didn't feel like I was the only one who knew about it anymore! There was even video games that were released and I loved the two I got for the PS2. They were Evil Dead: A Fistfull of Boomstick and Evil Dead Regeneration.

I have now realized how much this series has affected me. It is the first horror comedy series that I had seen and it also showed me that even with a small budget great films could be made if you try as hard as you can. It also influenced me to want to become a director. I am working to pursue this field!

Thank you for reading my article! This is my first one and I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it. I will continue to make articles for this site! You seem like a great community and I want to be a part of it.
Much Love,
Deadite
