The Land Before Time-Grandpa Longneck (voice)

Holy fucking shit. This guy did everything. If you watched TV in the 90's or today. You've probably heard his voice (or whatever voice he was doing at the time). But for real, this man had an amazing amount of talent to jump in some of these roles. He had enough gumption to replace Jeremy Irons when his voice went out while filming The Lion King.

I know people like to say how talented Seth McFarlane is and stuff. Don't get me wrong, he is! But Seth McFarlane mainly does the voices on Family Guy. Jim Cummings voiced multiple characters in hundreds of shows and movies. And not all of these were bit parts or brief cameos with only a few lines. Some of these were on going roles that were pretty big. I mean seriously...look at that list.

So let's take a look at some of the more iconic and maybe some of the less iconic roles of Jim Cummings...

Darkwing Duck

Suffice to say, if this ALL he did, he'd still be a legend. But no, this is just one of many classic shows he voiced. Voicing not only DarkWing and Drake Mallard, he also voiced a few other characters. I could write an entire article on why Darkwing Duck is amazing. This was actually one of his favorite roles he played.

Goof Troop

Again, he pretty much voiced the entire 90's line up of Disney cartoon shows. He's also the main voice talent behind Pete in most Disney media. I mean, Disney probably kept him locked in a room with a microphone and just fed him pages of dialogue.

Animaniacs

One of the greatest cartoons that can still hold up to an adult audience. While he didn't have a huge role in this show, he was still the announcer. He probably would have done more but was busy doing 20 other shows.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Most notably voicing Leatherhead on the show, he was also an alternate for the Shredder. This man was a pro at filling in for iconic voices that you'd think "no one else can do that!". Well, he was that guy.

Gummi Bears

Bouncing here and there and everywhere. This mother fucker played just about every animal there is in the Disney world. However it seemed like he did like playing bears. As he was pretty much THE voice of Winnie the Pooh through the 90's.

Iron Man and Fantastic Four

I'm grouping these together because he did some great voice work for MODOK and a few others. But what got my attention was the fact that he played Bill Clinton in both of these shows.

Duck Tales

Playing the nefarious El Capitan, he may not have had a major role in Duck Tales, but he was there. Just like he was every where in the Disney universe.

Talespin

See what I mean? He was in EVERY 90's Disney cartoon. I'm fairly certain that's not an exagerration. From what I remember, this was a regular villain on the TV series and had a pretty distinct voice.

Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers

When there's danger, call Jim Cummings. He replaced the guy who voiced Monterey Jack in the later seasons and did a few other voices such as the Fat Cat and Prof. Nimnul.
The Transformers

Sharkticon? That just sounds awesome. He didn't voice any of the major players but the important thing was that he was there.

Winnie the Pooh

I was never a huge fan of the Pooh, but I'm assuming tons of other people were. So there's that. Needless to say, he IS Pooh. I do like honey though. He also voiced Tigger. Does he ever stop?

Spider-Man the Animated Series

So he just played the Shocker and Chameleon. He can't have EVERY iconic role out there. It would just be unfair if he voiced Spider-Man and Bill Clinton.

Batman The Animated Series

Hands down one of the best animated version (the best version?) of the Caped Crusader. Would you believe Jim Cummings was in it? Indeed he was. He voiced Tygrus, who I'm guessing was the villain.

Bump in the Night

I almost forgot about this show. But I remember this being a pretty important part of Saturday mornings.

CatDog

That's right, Cat from CatDog. Need I say more?

Aladdin the Animated Series

Playing Razoul, he had a pretty regular gig on this show. On a side note, I still think this is one of the more under rated shows of the time.
Wild West Cowboys of Moo Mesa

As if being in one show about anthropomorphic animals isn't enough, he was also a talking cowboy cow in Moo Mesa. I don't remember being too into this show, but it does seem cool now.

Cro

Cro was a pretty good Saturday morning fare back in the day. Turns out he voiced a few characters in it.

The Simpsons

He played Duncan the Horse on The Simpsons. I'm kind of surprised he only voiced one character.

Marsupilami

Playing the large ape in Marsupilami, he pretty much cemented himself in 90's cartoon lore.

The Page Master

This is probably the best 90's animated/ real life combination movie featuring Kevin McCallister. He voiced a pirate, not just any pirate, but Long John Silver. I'd love to see this guy's resume.

Anyway, I could keep going. This man literally played hundreds of memorable characters. The reason I wrote this article is to show some appreciation on what this man provided for us. He was our childhood. He voiced everything, or was in everything. I suppose this is somewhat common in the voice actor industry. But Jim Cummings provided personality to characters in a time when you couldn't just animate cartoons on a computer (well maybe he did sometimes).
