My Memories of the early 90s
Basically this will be about my memories of TV in the early 90s
Man, where to start where to start. Well, this article might now have the best grammar but oh well, we'll make do with it. This is my first article I've ever written on RetroJunk so bare with me here. First off, thanks for finding this article and taking time to read it. It feels good to share some of my memories with yall. I figured my first article should be the best, so, I'm going with what I know best. 90S TV!!
I guess one of my earliest memories of television would have to be spent watching Barney and Shining Time Station on PBS when I was little. I used to love Barney so much that I would get shirts, videos, everything Barney I would love. I remember that I would sometimes beg my dad to turn the TV from the news to Barney so I could watch it. Now I'm not talking about the crappy Barney from today, I mean the real Barney the early Barney, this kind of Barney:
By the way, that was back when it was ok to watch Barney.
Another show that I remember watching from the early 90s was Shining Time Station on PBS. Man what a show. It was about a train station somewhere in America (I forgot where) and there was a little man named Mr. Conductor (Played by both Ringo Starr and George Carlin) who would tell stories about Thomas the Tank Engine (yes before he got CGI'd).
Also who could forget the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series before it got repetitive. I remember when it first came on back in the early 90s. I remember watching the series on FOX and I became a Power Ranger freak. I got the action figures, the command center, I even got to go see Power Rangers live at the Macon Coliseum in Macon, GA. unfortunately I don't have any pictures from the event, but I believe somewhere at my parents house there is a book that I got at the event that was custom made. If I can find it, I'll post a picture of it, but for now we'll have to make do with this picture:
Another show was sort of a spin-off of Power Rangers called VR Troopers. All I remember from that show though is "VR! VR!" There are episodes of it though I believe on YouTube (that's as of the date of the writing of this article here).
Who could forget America's Funniest Home Videos. I loved that show back in the early 90s with Bob Saget. It was one of the shows I looked forward to watching every Sunday night. Some times, when I would have to attend an event at church, my parents would tape it for me so I could watch it when I got back home. I remember watching that tape so many times throughout the 90s, unfortunately I no longer have that tape, I can't remember what happened to it, all I know is I'm kicking myself in the privates for not having it still.

But, there is one show that I remembered watching (actually it was a TV special) and I am so glad I still own the VHS Tape from it. It was Mickey's Christmas Carol recorded off 13 WMAZ from December 1, 1993. That tape has so many goldmines on it, you would not believe. It has the original commercials from the broadcast and it still plays in perfect condition almost 20 years later. Here's a few screenshots from it, and yes, I know they are a little awkward screenshots but you have to admit they are still funny as heck!
Now we move to Nickelodeon. I remember watching Nickelodeon in the early 90s when my babysitter would come over and babysit me and we would watch Nickelodeon. That would be the only time I would get to watch Nickelodeon because my parents didn't approve of any of the shows on Nickelodeon (never have never will) and I remember one of the first shows I saw on Nickelodeon was Clarissa Explains It All (everyone remembers that show) and it wasn't until I got my first TV in my room in 1994 that I became a true Nickelodeon junkie (which was a good thing at that time)
In 1994, (or 1993), I got a TV to go into my room the model of the TV I forgot but one of the things I remember is to never put a magnet to a TV screen unless you want everyone to have pink heads. lol.
Anyway, back to Nickelodeon. Once I got the TV I started watching Nickelodeon pretty much nonstop. I remember seeing Rugrats and for comedy relief, here's what Angelica looks like constipated:
But anyway, at that time, all the best shows were on Nickelodeon. You had Doug, Rugrats, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Double Dare, Nick Arcade, GUTS, so many shows to mention and they were all good shows, there was not a single dud in the bunch.
Well, this was just a short article to give the basic jist of some of the things I remember watching in the early 90s, hopefully when I get more time I will be able to post more articles with more detail. Until then, keep on rockin and remember, the 90s will live on! The 2000s just die already!
