Favorite TV Theme Songs

Some of my favorite TV show theme songs.

This article is about some of my favorite TV theme songs. They all are great and amazing in their own way. I believe that the theme song is a very important part of the TV show. Sometimes, it can tell you the background of the story, like in The Brady Bunch, or it can give you the theme or feeling the show itself has. On occasion, you might just remember the song, and not the show. TV theme songs are almost as important in today's pop culture as the show they are based upon.

This article is about six of my personal favorites.

One of my favorites is Three's Company.

"Come and knock on our door. We’ve been waiting for you.
Where the kisses are hers and hers and his, three's company too.

Come and dance on our floor. Take a step that is new.
We’ve a lovable space that needs your face, three’s company, too.

You’ll see that life is a ball again and laughter is calling for you.
Down at our rendezvous, three is company, too."

This is one of my favorites because the song is fun and wacky, just like the show! I love the opening sequence that shows the three doing their dumb, little antics, and those incredibly cheesy smiles. It's a classic. Also, in the 8th grade my science teacher was obsessed with old reruns of Three's Company, and would give out extra credit to anyone who could sing it, so I learned, of course. Brought my grade up from a B+ to an A-. And they say knowing lame pop culture references gets you nowhere.

Another favorite is "Superman" from Scrubs.

"Out the door just in time
Head down the 405
Gotta meet the new boss by 8 am

The phone rings in the car
The wife is working hard
She's running late tonight again

Well, I know what I've been told
You gotta work to feed the soul
But I can't do this all on my own
No, I know I'm no Superman
I'm no Superman

You've got your love online
You think you're doing fine
But you're just plugged into the wall

And that deck of tarot cards
Won't get you very far
There ain't no hand to break your fall

Well, I know what I've been told
You gotta know just when to fold
But I can't do this all on my own
No, I know I'm no Superman
I'm no Superman

That's right
== harmonica solo ==

You've crossed the finish line
Won the race but lost your mind
Was it worth it after all

I need you here with me
Cause love is all we need
Just take a hold of the hand that breaks the fall

Well, I know what I've been told
Gotta break free to break the mold
But I can't do this all on my own
No I can't do this all on my own
I know that I'm no Superman
I'm no Superman

Someday we'll be together
Someday, someday
Someday we'll be together
Someday
I'm no Superman."

Lyrics by Lazlo Bane

I know this is retrojunk, and Scrubs didn't come out until 2001, but it's still one fo my favorite TV theme songs. In the opening credits the only part of the song you hear is, "I can't do this all on my own. I know I'm no Superman." Which actually goes perfectly with Scrubs. The show was about a young medical intern who doesn't know what it's like to be a doctor yet, but he has people depending on him to save their lives. But he's just a person. He has to count on help from the doctors and friends around him just to make it through the day. It's a good song. P.S. Scrubs is my favorite show. Just thought I'd throw that on out there... So if you say there are no good television shows on anymore, well, think again.

Anyhoo, next up is Perfect Stragers.

"Sometimes the world looks perfect,
Nothing to rearrange.
Sometimes you get a feeling
Like you need some kind of change.
No matter what the odds are this time,
Nothing's going to stand in my way.
This flame in my heart,
And a long lost friend
Gives every dark street a light at the end.

Standing tall, on the wings of my dream.
Rise and fall, on the wings of my dream.
The rain and thunder
The wind and haze
I'm bound for better days.

It's my life and my dream,
Nothing's going to stop me now."

I know some of you are thinking, "What? Perfect Strangers? I don't even remember this one." I'm here saying, "Don't be ridiculous! It was AMAMZING!" Honestly, it's so inspirational. I love it. The lyrics, the melody. It's powerful, man. I mean, I'm a foreigner and nothing's going to stop me now. I love it when people say "Nothing's going to stop me now." I want to yell out, "Amen, sister!" But I'm white, so I'd sound like a total douche.

What could be next, you ask? Why, noneother than Growing Pains.

"Show me that smile again (Ooh show me that smile)
Don't waste another minute on your cryin'
We're nowhere near the end (We're nowhere near...)
The best is ready to begin

Ooh...
As long as we got each other
We got the world spinnin' right in our hands
Baby you and me...
We got to be...
The luckiest dreamers who never quit dreamin'

As long as we keep on givin'
We can take anything that comes our way
Baby rain or shine...
All the time...
We got each other
Sharin' the laughter and love."

By: John Bettis and Steve Dorff

It's sweet song to go with a sweet show. Remember all those famalies throughout time they would show during the opening credits? It just is such a positive song, about how if we have our family we have everything. Not to mention, whenever somebody talks about Growing Pains they always bring up how amazing the theme was. And, if I remember correctly, they did an a ccapella rendition in the later seasons. Whenever I'm bored I hum this bad boy. It's spectacular.

The next TV show theme song is from The Wonder Years.

"What would you do if I sang out tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
I will try not to sing out of key, yeah

Oh, baby I get by with a little help from my friends
By with a little help from my friends.
All I need is my buddies
By with a little help from my friends
I said I'm gonna get by with a little
By with a little help from my friends
Whoa oh oh oh oh

Said I don't know if that's what I'm sure do to, baby
By with a little help from my friends
Said I'm gonna make it with my friends
By with a little help from my friends
Whoa oh I'm gonna keep on trying
By with a little help from my friends
Said I'm gonna keep on trying."

I love The Wonder Years. Just thinking about it makes nostalgic. It makes me want to revisit my childhood so bad. I loved how they made it look like a home video. I loved this guy's voice. I just LOVE this song. It makes me teary-eyed. It's sooooo good.

And, finally, we have my favorite TV show theme of all time. Is it The Brady Bunch? The Facts of Life? "I'll Be There For You" from Friends? Nope. It's the Pokemon theme.

"I wanna be the very best,
That no one ever was,
To catch them is my real test,
To train them is my cause,

I will travel across the land,
Searching far and wide,
Each Pokemon to understand,
The power that's inside.

Pokemon,
Gotta catch'em all,
It's you and me,
I know it's my destiny,

Pokemon,
Oh, you're my best friend,
In a world we must defend,
Pokemon, oh, a heart so true,
Our courage will pull us through,
You teach me, and I'll teach you.

Pokémon,
Gotta catch'em all,
Gotta catch'em all,
Pokémon."

Love it! I LOVE it! It's so powerful, and UH! IN YOUR FACE! It's so awesome. It totally pumped you up for some Pokemon fun, man. Me and my friend still rock out to this shit whenever we can. He even made up this kick ass dance to it, and was laughing so hard I was crying. I just want to sing this song on the top of some random building and belt it out! You know, have the wind in my hair, be all dramatic. Oh, it'd be so fanstatic. Plus, one time, I saw either Jesus Christ Superstar or Godspell, and the guy who sang this song was in the cast. I think he played Judas. I was so excited. I mean, I was standing in the presence of Pokemon Theme Song Guy (that's what he goes by).

Now, I know not everyone will agree with my list. I left out some goodins, like The Facts of Life, Who's The Boss?, Friends, The Brady Bunch, Silver Spoons, Diff'rent Strokes, The Golden Girls, Charles In Charge, Full House... the list just goes on and on. But these were my PERSONAL favorites. I'd love to know what some of yours are, too, though. So tell me! Thanks!
