West Side Story
Release: October 18, 1961

West Side Story is the film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical of the same name from directors Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins. The movie is the story of two rival gangs, the all-white Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks and their competition over love. The competition over which gang is better soon turns into a competition to earn the love of two Puerto Rican girls, Maria and Anita, with neither gang willing to give in. When it was released the movie became culturally significant and was preserved by the Library of Congress in 1997.
