Finally, the question "are we alone in the universe" has been answered. People react with fear, wonder, and excitement while dozens of fifteen mile long ships silently take up positions over cities across the globe. When MIT graduate turned satallite repair man David Levinson discovers a hidden signal being used by these spacecraft it leads to a most terrifying conclusion...the aliens are primed for attack, and there are only hours left until the countdown is over. Few escape the near-total destruction of Earth's major cities; and now they must find a way to fight an enemy that their weapons cannot touch, their technology cannot match, and their numbers cannot overwhelm.

Steve: "(In reference to the spacecraft) "I have GOT to get me one of these!""
Julius Levinson: "You don't actually think they spend $20,000.00 on a hammer, $30,000.00 on a toilet seat do you?"
President Whitmore: "I saw… its thoughts. I saw what they're planning to do. They're like locusts. They're moving from planet to planet… their whole civilization. After they've consumed every natural resource they move on… and we're next. Nuke 'em. Let's nuke the bastards."
Julius Levinson: "If you're so smart, tell me something, how come you go to M.I.T. for 8 years to become a cable repairman?"
Julius Levinson: "Everyone's trying to get out of Washington, and we're the only schmucks trying to get in."
David Levinson: "Must go faster."
Captain Steven Hiller: "THAT'S RIGHT! Thats what you get! Look at you, ship all banged up! WHOSE THE MAN? HUH? WHOSE THE MAN? Wait until I get another plane! I am going to lower your friends RIGHT BESIDE YOU!"
Julius Levinson: "It's Air Force One for crying out loud and still he gets sick!"
Captain Steven Hiller: "Look, I really don't think they flew 90 billion light years to come down here and start a fight. Get all rowdy."
Albert Nimzicki: "I'm not Jewish."
Julius Levinson: "Well, nobody's perfect."
David Levinson: "A toast, to the end of the world."
Captain Steven Hiller: "Is that an earthquake?"
Jasmine Dubrow: "Not even a four pointer. Go back to sleep."
Capt. Jimmy Wilder: "Let's kick the tires and light the fires, big daddy!"
Russel Casse: "Payback's a bitch, ain't it?"
Captain Steven Hiller: "Oh, no. no, you are NOT shootin' that green shit at me!"
Russel Casse: "In the words of my generation"
Julius Levinson: "All you need is love, John Lennon, smart man, shot in the back very sad."
Russel Casse: "I picked a helluva day to quit drinkin'."
Gen. Gray: "Get on the wire, tell them how to bring those sons of bitches down."
David: "Checkmate."
Mr. Levinson: "This- This is not "checkmate". This is check mate."
