During its heyday, MTV was live and on location in late March every year for live coverage of Spring Break in Daytona, Florida. For one week the channel would be live with eight hours a day of coverage of parties, contests, and, of course, music performances! As a facet of youth culture, the channel decided that Spring Break coverage was a very important element of life for its target audience. The level of notoriety MTV's program achieved also made it an icon of American television culture.
