Release: December 18, 1979

For five years the crew of the PALOMINO has ranged through deep space, searching for evidence of alien life--with no result. Then, their mission almost at an end, they discover a giant collapsar--the largest black hole ever encountered--and, drifting perilously near it, is the long-lost legendary starship CYGNUS...Incredibly, the ship is not a lifeless hulk. Its commander--the genius who designed the CYGNUS and planned its epic voyage--still survives, served by a horde of mechanical slaves. But Commander Hans Reinhardt has no desire to be rescued. He has a rendezvous with the incredibly hellish forces of the collapsar--and he plans to take the PALOMINO'S crew along on his doomed adventure.

I used to have cardboard cut outs hanging from my ceiling in my room when I was like 7-8....I remember owning an action figure of Maximillian Shell too. I have this movie on DVD...one of my faves.

I love the old effects of the black hole towards the end of the film. It may look cheesy to some but I'm a sucker for old special effects (in certain films). Great movie I must say. And I find Maximilian Schell a great villain in the film.

I've seen parts of the movie, and it does not seem very Disney to me. It's an awesome movie though

I love the movie, because it was the first PG rated Disney film ever. I have it on DVD.

In 1986 after my family moved into a small appartment complex in Prescott Valley (Back before it was all paved up and filled with houses) we had ordered cable for the first time. Back when the Disney channel was cool, we watched The Black Hole several times.

It's also one of the creepiest Disney movies.. It's actually what caused them to start a new movie studio(Touchstone) specifically for more adult-oriented entertainment.

This was a very controversial movie because it was the first Disney movie to receive a PG rating.
