i did a search, and there's not been a dedicated thread to this movie yet!

Classic!

this was one of my greatest childhood memories. i can remember being a little kid, and watching this movie on tv. during the infamous hanger scene, my own mother turned to me and said, "see, your life could be worse." today, twenty+ years later when my mother calls me, my mobile phone screams, "i told you no wire hangers EVER!"

but there's so much more to the movie than the hangers...

"Because I'm not one of your FANS!"

what's your favorite scene? you know you got one...

When she can't brush out all of the hairspray in Christina's hair and proceeds to cut off her hair.

What I like about this movie is that it has a realistic depiction of child abuse. I mean, perhaps it is a little exaggerated in the movie, but is thrashing a child with a wire hanger any more outrageous than that woman I read about on here a while back who killed her baby by putting it in a microwave, or (to use a more recent example) Chris Benoit killing his own son?

Classic film, I couldnt get over how much she look like joan crawford. I felt so bad for her daughter sake and well being. She must of been such a pain to live with. I thought I was always bad with my cleaning but her she is 10 times worst.

Not only did I like the movie, but my grandmother had a copy of the book upon which it's based. I used to read parts of it whenever I went over after school. There's a bit more detail than what's in the movie, like how Christina actually tried to eat that barely cooked bit of roast beef after several days of having nothing else set in front of her and wound up barfing in the servants' toilet. Or how, when she was little, Christina accidentally tore a little part of the wallpaper off the wall in her bedroom, and Joan punished her by taking Christina's favorite dress out of the closet, cutting it to shreds in front of her with a pair of scissors, and then forcing her to wear it for a week straight.

And yet, despite everything Joan did, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? is still one my favorite movies.

                  That movie was nuts, man.

She looked so creepy in that wire hanger scene...She had some sort of cream or some crap on her face and it made her look like some sadistic clown.

I also noticed that the brother kind of...dropped out of the film for a long time. I think there were about 3 scenes in total with Christina's brother in it. He was almost part of the scenery, lol.

He wasn't the only Crawford kid practically left out of the picture, either. Joan adopted twins, too, both younger than Christina or Christopher. I don't seem to recall they ever made the film. Come to think of it, they didn't appear much in the book, either.

Always thought it was creepy the way Joan kept little Christopher in a baby harness while he slept long after he was a baby.

I never saw a baby in a harness like that! It was more like a straight jacket!

This is also the best movie ever made.

I like the movie Mommy Dearest. At the same time I hate it. It reminds me so much of my mother only my mother was a tad worse.
It's OK, next time I'll make you listen. I wish that it were in the power of all children to say that to their parents and to know that indeed they would be heard as we were in those wonderful days on Waltons Mountain.Narrator The Waltons (From the Runawa

I saw "Mommy Dearest" and heard other things about Joan on T.V. Wow! She was messed up! I remember Betty Davis talking about what a slut she was on a talk show one time.
