Talk Soup was one of the E! channels original shows. This was back when E! actually covered entertainment news and not run 7 shows about how Britney Spears is destroying herself.
Talk Soup covered the weeks highlights of all the talk shows, from Ricki Lake up to Springer. It was first hosted by Greg Kinear, followed by John Henson. After those two I stopped watching it, I never liked the hosts they had after Greg and John. The show still runs today but its been re-formatted and now its simply called The Soup and its hosted by Joel McCale and its better then ever. Not only covering talk shows but now reality shows and other random stuff. Also Joel is a great host.
Anyway I used to watch The Soup whenever I spent the night at my grandma's house. During the day the house was cool but at night, when everyone had gone to bed I was petrified to leave the living room. I dont know what it was, (probally cause my sister would tell me it was haunted before she went to bed, thanks sis). So I would stay up all night and watch the wonders of cable. The Soup and MST3K (which was still on comedy central back then) were the two shows that got me through the night.
Talk Soup (and even The Soup) today had this great format. Just this one guy sitting there as if he was talking directly to you. It has a small studio audience, mostly made up of the shows writers, and you would hear them laugh and you could tell they were just having a good time.
Like I said Greg and John were the best hosts. When that dork Hal Sparks took over I couldn't watch it anymore. He was a terrible host. The some girl took over and she wasn't bad at hosting but the show must of lost some writers cause it was not that funny anymore. Luckily though they re-booted it with The Soup some time around 2004 and its back in its prime.
Every time I watch it reminds me of those nights I spent wide awake at my grandmas house, with every light on in the room, buzzing on Mountain Dew and laughing my ass off to keep the ghosts away.
