Shopping at Tower Records I learned a few valuble lessons. One is that I almost bought a laserdisk player because it "looked cool." The only reason I didn't was because they didn't have a big selection of movies I wanted. So now I always wait just over a year or more to buy the next big thing in electronics. Second I must have spent thousands on cassette tapes and have no Idea where they all went? Now I try not to spend to much money on non essentials. Third I'm kinda glad they went out of business, if they wern't smart enough to see what was happening with online downloads and didn't throw all their money and efforts into changing the way they do business then what good are they?

Heh, for me, it's either place that starts with a "B" these days.

Never had a Suncoast close to me to go to on the other hand besides one to the very south across town. Tower Records never set foot here, and FYE had a short stint after it had been Record Town/Saturday Matinee at one mall. Course these were the classic smaller shops they would have at malls prior to the Big Box revolution.

Only other place in my area that sells DVDs of my favorate shows these days is Best Buy. But that's too far away from my house.

I remembering buying my first cd (Weezer Blue album) from Streetside Records. I think they are still around but none around me anymore.

I also loved Suncoast like crazy! Not only did I like buying movies from there but they also had cool movie memorabilia. I bought tons of movie posters from there and other things like that. I would just browse around the store for close to an hour, I just loved it.

I dont know what happend to them cause they are now crazy fucking expensive. I bought Monster Squad on DVD from them cause they were the only place to have one left but other then that I have not bought a movie from them in years.

When Record Runner in Ottawa and Sam the Record Man in Toronto closed I found those to be sad days. At those places you could get new releases and classic albums cheaply, find or order in exotic import and indie stuff and they both had excellent DVD departments. I used to like HMV's flagship four level store in Toronto but I've found it's quality to have dropped lately and I have to wear headphones in there now cause the stuff they play over the PA is utter shit. At least for now CD Warehouse is still making a go of it in Ottawa and Toronto still has Sunrise Records and there's good used stores around across Ontario.

I remember this awesome store in my town called Music Oasis, where you could buy just-released CDs for as low as $9.99. It wasn't an underground store selling bootlegs or anything; it was owned by National Record Mart. But when NRM went bankrupt, this store died also.

My town's mall used to have a Suncoast and Media Play. I especially loved the latter because it had EVERYTHING: CDs, DVDs, video games, books, magazines, whatever. Now, the closest thing to an entertainment-type store is GameStop.

I liked shopping at Suncoast. It was more expensive than Best Buy, yes. But I still liked buying DVDs of some of my favorate shows. That's where I got most of my Nintendo cartoons on DVD.

You are right, they do always seem to have the Nintendo cartoon DVD's, more so then Best Buy does.

I'm assuming Suncoast and Sam Goody's were owned by the same franchise (if my memory serves me right). But yeah, no Sam Goody's, no Wherehouse, and Tower Records has BEEN gone in AZ. FYE is taking those shop's place out here.
