What kind of tree do you/would you prefer and why?

As for me, I had both at one point in my life.

The real ones smell good but require too much matinance (Vacuuming twenty times a day because their needles shed, carting the thing from wheever you bought it from, watering it, ect.) The artificial ones are easier to tend too (No shedding needles! W00t!) but they're more of a pain to set up. Plus, the branches like to leave irritating little scratches all up and down my arms (the real ones never did that to me, at least not what I remember.)

While both have their ups and down, I prefere the artificial ones.

Speaking of Christmas Trees, I found another strike against the Real trees: http://health.yahoo.com/news/healthday/livechristmastreescantriggermoldallergies.html

I enjoy the experience of going to a Christmas tree farm picking one out chopping it and getting apple cider or hot chocolate, it's part of the experience. As of 2004 my family got one of the fake trees that comes in a box and it's in three pieces, i can see why the fake trees are great and i dont really have a porblem with them but i prefer real. I remember when the real trees used to cost like 30-40 bucks now it's like 75 and up.

We have 2 trees in our house, one fake and we get one real. Two real ones would be nice but it would cost a bit much, and the fake tree doesnt bother anyone at all. We decorate them as much as possible and it makes the fake tree seem real.

Also, Thylacine, the tree should not lose that many needles if it is a healthy tree.

I live in the woods, if I want pine scent, I just have to walk outside.

Going out and cutting a tree and all that is entirely too much trouble, IMO. I use a nice thick fake tree. If I want pine smell indoors, I'll mop the kitchen with pine glo, kill two birds with one stone. :P

we used to do real, but my mom got tired of it. we stopped after my sibs and i didn't really want to go to the lot and pick one out. I think i was about 12 or 13. I like the fake one, still looks pretty and i'm not stepping on needles until february.

Well, i prefer real trees by far because you can go out to a tree farm and pick one out then put it up in the same day but with fake trees you have to set all the branches up and find all the parts but with real trees to me anyway there just seems to be this nice feeling of nostalgia and acually haveing memories of the christmas tree. But alas i go with fake trees because my mom always likes them better because they dont reqiure alot of work. I almost fainted when i woke up and my mom said she got a pre-lite tree :(

Real! It's all about the experience. Going out in the snow to cut it down, figuring out a way to stuff it in our trunk, hauling it in the house and having to vacuum the needles afterward. Plus the smell is great and makes it feel like Christmas. Having a fake tree is pretty much like having a fake Christmas.

We've always had an artificial tree. Seems more environmentally friendly, imo. To me, it's like giving someone cut flowers. We've had the one we use for at least 13 years now. It cost enough, though, which is why it still looks as nice as it did when we first bought it.

Don't you want the memory of going to Walmart and picking out the bestest tree on the shelf? For me, that's Christmas.

eexactly. I've never had a real tree, it's just bad for the environment. My fake tree is gorgeous enough.
You also don't have to worry about the tree drying out and possibly causing a fire if you use an artificial tree.

How are real trees bad for the environment? You're just cutting down a tree and putting it in your house, which will later be recycled as mulch. Seems like everything these days is somehow bad for the environment, it just gets tiring.

If you call plastic and chemicals good for the environment, then sure, go for that instead of a renewable, natural product. All it takes is elbow grease to make a real tree. LOL.

I've always had a real tree. Trying to start that tradition for myself, but no one wants to, yet they still want to go to a tree farm. I will say that fake trees look much better now than they did when I was a kid. They even come pre-lighted.

It's bad for those who don't recycle and just throw the tree out and dump it someplace. It's worse enough that trees are being cut down and cleared away and not being replanted to replace it, seems that it's pointless to do so for Christmas. It's so trivial. At least with an artificial tree (a good one where it's not like that wire stuff), you can reuse it every year. Our tree is full, like a real tree, about 7 ft tall and was worth about $200 (back then), and it was a good investment. It looks as nice as it did the day we bought it.

                                      by Brenda Lee)

Shopping around for a Christmas tree
                                      At the grocery parking lot
Every thing over 4 foot 3
Is about hundred bucks a pop
Schleping around for a Christmas tree
                                      And I still haven't found a thing
In a trailer I met some drunken guy
                                      And we did some haggling

People get that ornamental feelin’ every year,
Moms and Dads and kids all happy
Till they get their hands all scratched and sappy

                                      Shopping around for Christmas trees
                                      What a crappy holiday
Today they smell so fresh and green
They'll be dead on Christmas Day

You will get that ornamental feeling every year
When you find a tree that looks real jolly,
If you turn it round, it's as brown as Charlie's

                                      Chopping down my Christmas tree
                                      In a true old-fashioned way
Topping it off with a Spotted Owl
                                      And make hasty get away
What is popular isn't always right; What is Right isn't always popular.
