In a one-hour special Elmo celebrates Christmas and also learns of the holidays of Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and how people celebrate them. As a part of the special Elmo watches a Christmas pageant and visits Santa to find the perfect present for Dorothy. Kelly Ripa guest stars as a letter carrier who brings Elmo a series of cards.
