8 Simple Rules was a sitcom running on ABC from 2002-2005. The sitcom revolved around the lives of sports writer Paul Hennessy and his wife, nurse Cate Hennessy as well as their awkward children. The whole series was based off the book "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" which is what the series was originally named.

John Ritter played the role of Paul in the series. When Ritter died after shooting the first few episodes of the 2nd season, his character Paul was killed off and the first several episodes of the second season focused on the family having to deal with his character's death. The third season of the show took a turn focusing on Hennessy cousin C.J. and his grandfather Jim.
