i like retro- new nightrider is a trainwreck! but new bsg has a great story- it is character based which keeps it strong when you think that effects are so commonly excellent these days and the prequel is even better! still the original soundfx were awesome!

Being from the old school I like the old show much better than the newer one. The effects on the newer show are better of course but the characters and the stories I just can't get into. A few of the other posters on here nailed it perfect when they said that old show was kind of Star Wars similar as far as feel and the overall apperance. How can you replace Apollo and Starbuck?

I loved the original show. Use to watch it every night, when the re-runs aired on channel 46 in Atl back in the day.

Now I own the dvd boxset. I also like the new version of the show, but the original is always the best of the 2.

They should have called the new one :Battlestar Galactica Alternative. to me I just consider it an alternative story.

Wish the networks would have done what Richard Hatch(Apollo) originally wanted to do, he had filmed a trailer with some of the older actors to bring a new Galactica tv show based on his novels and a continuing story based on the original show. But the industry turned him down and ignored the fan base, and we got the new version.

I enjoy the new one as well, particularlythe darker overtones. I loved the original as well, but LOATHED Galactica 1980. Incidentally in Australia, the pilot to the original (as well the pilot to Galactica 1980)were given Cinema runs!!! You could (and I did) check it out on the big screen...

For those of you noting the stark contrast in the moral tone between the original series and the recent remake, it's somewhat known that the writers of the original series were Mormon. Many LDS folk (including myself) were able to recognize the underlying theological aspect of the show.

trired watching the new BSG.....sorry it may be great for the new generation that didn't grow up with the original. Sadly, the new version is nothing like the original, only in name. I think they should rename the new show, and call it something like BSG 3010 or something...The original is and always will be the BEST BSG. It had unforgettable heros, comedy, a flash gordan/star wars opera feel to it, and it just had a lot of heart. And we had Daggits. The new one is far to mechanical in feel and emotion. There's no life in the show. The new Appollo is a brat, unlike the lionheart son of the original. The new Starbuck way off the mark, and nothing like the dashing, suave character the original was. The new show lacks everything that made the original memorable, and special to us. At least we have the classic on DVD now.

I love this show. The original 70's version is WAY better than the Sci-Fi channel remake. You can't beat the man-in-suit Cylons, and Dirk Bennedict kicked oh-so-much but as Starbuck.

Technically it's not a ripoff of Star Wars, because the idea had been created sometime in the 60's but the network put it on the backburner. However it was because of the sucsess of Star Wars in the late 70's that the network was willing to give BSG a shot. So while it's true that without SW there'd be no BSG, they were two seperate ideas that ended up being realised around the same time.
