"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" is a commercially reconstructed cartoon of a popular underground "graph-vel" of the same name. The story kicks off with a headstrong television journalist named April O'Neil investigating the goings-on of a recent warehouse break-in. A gang of bruts chases her into the labyrinthian sewers of New York City (or Manhattan) where she is rescued by four mysterious figures. She discovers that they are actually masked anthropomorphic turtles. Falling unconscious, they take her to their secret lair. After awakening, their rat sensei Splinter tells her of his coming to America, his students' mutation, and a ruthless crime lord named Oroku Saki (later proclaiming himself as the Shredder). From this point forward, a elongated plot surfaces focusing on the turtles and the friends they meet along the way foiling the Shredder and his "brainy" associate Krang's plans for total domination of Earth. A few reasons this show was so popular is because of its creativity and comedic integrity. It would often reinforce the fact that it was just a kid's show--nothing more. I assume this was to educate impressionable and reclusive children who spent too much time imagining they were ninja turtles. In an episode that aired during the early '90s, Baxter the Fly (formally Professor Baxter Stockman) transformed the people of Channel 6 into insects with a mixture of Krang's mutagen and some genetic extractions. During the episode's climax, he unwittingly gets caught in a spider's web spun by Vernon. Right before he could consume Baxter, the turtles free him and say, "that is not how we get rid of villains on this show." This was quite refreshing for that particular time. "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" was also the stuff of conformity and unity, a theme that appeared in several other shows during the '80s and essentially defined the era.

The UK version wasn't allowed Mike to show his numchuks, this is apparent if you watch the UK 'Hero' Intros and compare to the US

2nd Intro Better Quality is now up in Virtual PAL unless is the second series was availble as Ninja in PAL later on in that case it would be real and also availble in original in my opinion too slow 23fps NTSC Film Mode but that was how cartoons were filmed back in the days US at 23fps and UK at 25fps so virtual PAL I like better but 23fps NTSC Film Mode originals are interesting to hear just to be able to hear how slow the theme tunes sound like in the originals. :D

This show was by far the best cartoon ever made. Today's cartoons don't stand a chance. We used to watch it every day after school. One of my favorite episodes was the first appearence of Casey Jones, what an awsome new character! We would fight over who would be Casey during play. When the real life movie came out, It was crazy! I was so exited, I still remember the details of that day as if it was a major global event. The only other cartoon that even comes close to the 80's TMNT is The Real Ghostbusters.

i don't remember many episodes- we had a vhs (how it all began) and watched over and over. it was a lot more humorous than it less friendly looking modern counterparts and i was too old to get into those. but when it was hot i worshiped it- had a figure, (i wanted leonardo so i swapped for my brothers raphiel- he lost a fork and tried to swap back...) read the joke book: (why did bebop throw his alarm clock out the window?- he wanted to kill time.

I wasn't allowed to watch TMNT or have the toys at my house, my mom thought they were the work of Satan. I had to go to all my friend's houses to watch the show and play with the toys. One of the many reasons why I hate religion today.

When other kids were really into GI Joe or Transformers, I was raised on Ninja Turtles along with Ghostbusters. I religiously watched the cartoons every Saturday morning and I watched the first 2 live action movie until the tapes wore out (the newest CGI movie was cool to look at but the story was forgettable, and let's pretend the 3rd movie never happened). I even went to school a few times with a broomhandle I pretended was Don's Bo-staff. Since this was long before Columbine the teacher's were cool about it.
