KNBC-TV Newscasts
Debut: January 16, 1949

KNBC-TV in Los Angeles broadcasts 44 hours, 55 minutes of locally produced newscasts each week. When Channel 4 signed on the air on January 16, 1949 under the original call letters KNBH-TV, the station's first original newscast titles was Coca-Cola News. In 1950, the station changed its newscast titles to Ford News. In 1954, when Channel 4 changed its call letters to KRCA-TV, the news department rebranded its newscast titles to Jack Latham and the news. In 1960, Channel 4 rebranded its newscast titles as The Fifth Hour/Sixth Hour/Eleventh Hour Report. In 1966 (4 years after the station changed its call letters to KNBC-TV), the newscast titles were rebranded to News 4. Also at that time, Bob Abernathy, John Schubeck, Jess Marlow and Tom Brokaw all joined the station as main weeknight anchors. In February 1967, Schubeck left the station, 7 years before he would return. In March 1968, the station revamped its news programs into the KNBC News Service. In January 1972, Tritia Toyota joined the KNBC-TV as general assignment reporter. In March 1972, Paul Moyer first joined the news team as reporter and weekend anchor. In July 1973, after Tom Brokaw left the station, Moyer took over the 11 p.m. weeknight newscast. In 1974, John Schubeck returned to the station as anchor. In 1975, Tritia Toyota was promoted to weekend evening anchor. In March 1976, Channel 4 rebranded its newscast titles to NewsCenter 4. In December 1981, Kirstie Wilde joined the station as anchor/reporter. In July 1982, KNBC-TV's newscasts were the last to drop the NewsCenter moniker, rebranding to News 4 LA. On August 5, 1985, KNBC-TV rebranding its newscasts to Channel 4 News, which would be retained for 26 years. In 1986, KNBC-TV became the first station in the L.A. market to launch its weekday morning newscast title: "Today in L.A." In August 1986, Colleen Williams joined Channel 4 as reporter and weekend anchor. In Fall 1986, Jess Marlow returned to Channel 4, this this as commentator for the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts. On August 16, 1997, Jess Marlow retired from news reporter before he left Channel 4 for good on December 31 of that year. On July 14, 2008, KNBC-TV began producing its newscasts in High-Definition, becoming the fifth station in the L.A. television market to do so. In 2011, KNBC-TV rebranding its newscasts to NBC 4 News. On June 7, 2021, the station premiered its newest 7 p.m. weeknight newscast. On September 12, 2022, KNBC-TV debuted its new 30-minutes 3 p.m. weekday newscast.
