Anna and Ben, the two children of Jackie and Luke, have to cope with the fact that their parents divorced and that there is a new woman in their father's life: Isabel, a successful photographer. She does her best to treat the kids in a way that makes them still feel at home when being with their dad, but also loves her work and does not plan to give it up. But Jackie, a full-time mother, regards Isabel's efforts as offensively insufficient. She can't understand that work can be important to her as well as the kids. The conflict between them is deepened by the sudden diagnose of cancer, which might may be deadly for Jackie. They all have to learn a little in order to grow together.

Anna: "You remember that boy I told you about, well my mom told me to ignore him, so I did. You know what he called me, "Frosty the Snowbitch" in front of everyone!"
Ben: "Mommy, if you want me to hate her I will."
Jackie: "Yep. Life's a tradeoff. It's finally legal to smoke dope, but you got to have cancer."
Anna: "I don't have to listen to you, you're not my mother!"
Isabel: "Hello?... What is your problem, asshole?"
Jackie: "28 hours. The doctors wanted to go in and get her, but I knew she'd come at her own time. You can never rush her."
Jackie: "You know, Ben was born in two hours, went right to the breast, and camped there for 4 days. His blanket looked just like a cape, even the nurses thought so. He loves hearing that story about how he was born a magician."
Isabel: "Look down the road to her wedding. I'm in a room alone with her, fixing her veil, fluffing her dress, telling her no woman has ever looked so beautiful. And my fear is she'll think, "I wish my mom were here.""
Jackie: "Well there's a loophole, you know. You can say "never, never" if you mean it enough to say it twice."
Anna: "You never asked me if I wanted a new mother. You never even asked me if I liked her!"
Luke: "Anna! You do NOT run out on your mother!"
Ben: "See Mom? I told you! I'm telepathetic."
