The game was originally called Conker's Quest and later titled to Twelve Tales: Conker 64. Rare felt that this game would be "just another cutesy platformer", so they changed his image from cute and fun-loving to perverted and foul-mouthed.

Ya I like all those somewhat generic 3D platformer games no matter how many I play I never get sick of them.

Ugh. Why'd you have to remind me of Conker's Quest? I remember seeing early screenshots in Nintendo Power back in the day, and with Rare's simultaneous announcement of Banjo-Kazooie... It just seemed like they were ripoffs of each other (the fact that both characters were in Diddy Kong Racing further fueled that argument for me). It just wouldn't have worked. The Bad Fur Day makeover was the major turning point which indicated that they were indeed not ripoffs and were headed in completely opposite directions.

I thought RARE changed Conker's "cutsie" image, because they didn't want their works to be associated with being "cute", so to speak, hence Conker's Bad Furday. For the record, I didn't like that Fur Day game. I like "Conker's Tales" Conker and Diddy Kong Racing Conker. ^^
