Looks like August 20 is the date. Now the question is, is it possible we get Super Metroid on the Virtual Console by then?

I saw this yesterday. I can't wait. I'd think they would put Super Metroid on the VC around the time of MP3. I know how much Nintendo loves to push a games lineage.

Yeah, I'm with you there (although I'm from the UK... still PAL). Can't wait, the first 2 couldn't have been better if they tried. :)

I hope Super Metroid is up before then. It's pretty much the only Metroid I haven't played...

I'm so excited for it also. I preordered it. I can't wait for the game. There are just 2 mores games for the Wii I'm just waiting for: Super Mario Galaxy and Supser Smash Bros: Brawl.

Nintendo appeared to be on the right track with the Wii yet it appears if they might be going back to the days of the GC. The Wii has really been sticking it to the PS3 since release but I fear what will happen once the novelty of the Wii wears off and when (if) the PS3 starts offering quality games.

Six months have passed since the release of the Wii and what is there to play? The selection is nothing to stop the presses over and if it wasn't for only ONE of their top franchises having a title for the Wii, the selection wouldn't be much better than the GC. After the poor showing by the GC, I would think Nintendo would have had their big guns ready to compete with Sony yet everyone has waited and waited for a Mario title and Metroid title more than six months after release! Does Nintendo realize the novelty will eventually wear off?

Zelda and Paper Mario are really the only great games for the Wii itslef, but for somebody like myself who no longer has the older consoles the Virtual Console is great, and there are also some titles worth looking in to like The Godfather, WarioWare, Call of Duty 3 and Excite Truck.

I agree the selection isn't what it could be yet, but look at how it's selling now and that's with out Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and there are several other titles on the way. I think unless there are significant price drops for both the 360 and PS3, and soon, the Wii will be the top seller for a while. And with those sales will come more games.

The Wii is selling well because it is a new and afforable gaming system. As with anything else, the novelty will eventually run out to the point of seeing this system on the shelves. Mario, Metroid and Zelda alone will not keep this system competative with the rest. Spending a few dollars for old 8/16/64bit games also will not help this cause. Alot more substance will be needed for this to happen!

I'd be curious to know how many people have been put off with the Wii because they haven't been able to locate one on the shelves? How many potential customers did Nintendo give to Microsoft because of their supply and production issues?

$249.99 is a great price for the Wii, if you can find it. Over six months later and many still can not find one makes the $399.99 for the 360 seem like a better deal. This is exactly why I bought one. After playing TP on both the GC and Wii, I became highly disappointed that the Wii doesn't offer a substantial increase in overall play than the cube.

Nintendo's solution to help keep the GC "successful" was to pump out the same crap over and over. In otherwords, they went to their bread and butter franchises with little success. The same can not happen now. WHile the PS3 and Xbox 360 both offer a rollercoaster ride in terms of gaming, Nintendo is still content doing what they did since the early 2000's.

Seeing as how 360s aren't exactly moving off shelves like they should be for a console that has been on the market as long as it has, I'd say Nintendo's production issues haven't handed MS many consumers at all. In over a year on the market, the 360 is barely over the 10 million sold mark, Wii is all ready at 7 mil, PS3 is around 3. By the middle of next year, it's possible MS could be in dead last. And with a lot of third parties starting to shift focus to making Wii games, I'm going to guess there's going to be enough there for them to be successful. On top of that you have Nintendo's proven franchises and new ones on the way. They're in the driver's seat right now, of course, it'd be foolish to count Sony out though seeing as how they haven't yet gotten their proven games out.

But anyway, I don't want to turn this thread about MP 3 into a sales thread. You don't like the Wii, you don't like Nintendo's franchises? Fine, but some of us still do.

Btw, I just found 5 Wii units at the Best Buy in Homewood, IL. This is the first time I've seen them on the shelf since January.

Pull your head out of your arse for a minute, will ya?

Call me on things I said and not on things I didn't say. Do you want to agrue that Nintendo seems to focus more on past characters/franchises than truely expanding and offering something new and fresh? Mario, Zelda and Metroid are great but they do get old after 20+ years.

Instead of telling me about all of the third party players starting to make games for the Wii, I care about what is available right now. What will be coming or what might be coming is not as important as what is on the shelves right now that will make me want the Wii. The selection is highly disappointing for a system that has been out over six months.

Sales should not be a surprise. Something that is new and supposedly a step up from the last system usually sells well during the beginning. This is especially true if it has Nintendo on the box and sells for 249.99. As with everything else, sales do level off and this will not be an exception.
