Seriously. Nintendo had games where you could save your progress on the freaken NES. So why don't I have any genesis games that let you save? It wasn't until like 94 with sonic 3 that you could FINALLY save your game....wtf. I really wish the ecco games didn't have that retarded password system. And then there's contra advance......it uses a password system. So like I'm supposed to ride the subway with a pen and sheet of paper for everytime I get to the next stage? what retard introduced that?

    ...or this shit for example:

The japanesse version of Metroid have the ability to save your progress, but the rest of the world gets an annoying password system.

Mind you, I think Nintendo was sort of unique for save features, it wasn't a commonplace thing in video games yet.

Hell, lots of SNES games that could've used a save feature didn't, like Street Fighter II (scores).

Also, Metroid took a helluva lot of memory, the only reason the Japanese got it was because it was for the Famicom Disk System instead of on a cartridge.

You know, Passwords aren't necessarily a bad thing. Sure, one miswrite and you're screwed, but with NES games having faulty save features, passwords can be a blessing.

i'd really wished that sonic 2 had a save system, since it would take me like 45 minutes just to get to the death egg. and every time i would make it there my genesis would start to heat up...

I was ticked when I found out that Super Bonk didn't have saving or passwords. Passwords are OK, as long as they're not ridiculously long. I still prefer saving, though.

But sometimes a long game with neither, like Kid Chameleon, can be a blast. :D

Well, it's not THAT bad after all, games are for when you have plenty of time though...

Lolo without passwords would be way beyond hardcore...

....anyway. uhh. Yeah I never liked passwords...even as a kid. The funniest thing is using the password system in megaman 2. It doesn't save the energy tank information. And the energy tanks are what you need to clear the game. As for sonic 2, it doesn't feel like it needs saving or passwords it's a pretty short game. And as for megaman 2 I just got used to clearing it in one shot instead of using passwords.

Metroid was originally released on the Famicom Disk System in Japan so they could do the whole save your progress thing.

also, since it was released before Legend of Zelda in the US they made it w/ the password feature. saving games on the NES wasn't introduced until Legend of Zelda was released.

No kidding, I was thoroughly pissed when my brother messed with the Virtual Console Street Fighter II game we had, because he ended up turning off the Wii's power while in the game, which is the equivalent of shutting it off on a Super Nintendo, thereby deleting my high score (which was my first playthrough of the game ever)! And it was just because his stupid controller wasn't working! :x
