I found this one on YouTube is the first FBI screens shown on their first Disney VHS tapes. I haven't seen this one in so long. But it does shown a "For Home Use Only" slide in the first one.

Those were taken from of the first Disney VHS tapes like "Dumbo", "Pete's Dragon", "The Black Hole", "The Shaggy Dog" and many others.

This was followed by a "Neon Mickey" logo with a baffling loud music at the end. That scared everyone to death if you've first seen it. Here it is.

I think I actually have this on my old copy of Snowball Express. It has the blue warnings and the Home Entertainment logo, but I don't know about the For Sale Only disclaimer. It is labeled as such on the case though. It also has the Walt Disney and You promo in full.

I got my first Disney video in 1987 and got more as the years went on...I think the FBI screens were as follows...

          1. Red background, may have been two slides (one with the do not copy warning, the other with the statement that it was for private use only). The second one may not have been there, I'll have to dig an old one out.

          2. White background with a vertical red-orange stripe with "FBI" on the left side of the screen for the first slide, the same red-orange color on the entire screen with white letters for the second. This one was in use from 1988 until about 1991-1992.

          3. Green background with white letters for both slides. It replaced #2. Many of the ones from 1993-1995 have these.

          4. I'm not sure, but I think the blue one came about sometime in the mid to late 1990s. I'm pretty sure it was on a DVD from the early part of this decade.

          5. I haven't bought any Disney DVDs since Finding Nemo, but I'm thinking they may have changed it to the one with the phrase "anti-piracy" sometime between then and now, a lot of the other companies seem to have this on their stuff these days.

If I get old videos out and find corrections to any of this I'll go ahead and make them...or if someone else on here knows of any more or any errors on here, go ahead and comment!

Was there one before the red one circa 1987?

This screen is not new. This is the same FBI warning screen that comes up on all VHS movies. The only difference is that the two screens after actually take lines from that FBI screen and make sure you read them by putting them alone.

              Not intended for rental.

              And for private non-commercial use.

The FBI warning states those two things but along with the rest of the legal mumbo-jumbo that goes along with it.

Yes, Disney VHS tapes had many FBI warning colorings through out the years. But why were they always in different colors?

                  To answer some questions:

Red Ranger Fan: This is probably because of the increase in piracy and the illegal downloading that goes on over the internet. Since comptuers have DVD drives and can use them easier than a VHS tape, they probably made it unskippable so you don't do it. Remember kids, always pay for your movies!!! If you can't do it legally, don't do it at all!!!

Retrocop: Yes, Disney wants to get its point across. I think some companies just stick it all on one screen and they expect you to read it quickly and blurred. Try reading an FBI warning on a 13" CRT TV! I've also seen some videos where "Warning" is flashed to get your attention.

Filmation Girl: My guess is this: they want to change it up to get your attention. Let's use the vertical stripe one as an example. It had the big red-orange stripe. It was a big change-up from the previous ones that people wanted to see what it was, thus they read the FBI warning. Now eventually people who bought a lot of Disney videos got used to that and didn't pay attention anymore. So they started putting it in green. The reaction I first had when I saw it: "What's this green screen? Where's the FBI--oh wait, this is the FBI warning! Let's check it out!" Exactly what Disney probably wanted to accomplish.

I use FBI screens to judge the age of a Disney video. I take it I'm not the only one who does it here. And I'll have to look at some of the other videos I have to see if the FBI warnings change from time to time with other companies.

Thanks for all the info about the FBI screens on Disney VHS tapes. Videolover326 posted that one on YT and it brings back so many memories especially with that scary "Neon Mickey" logo came after that.

The "For Home Use Only - Not Intended for Rental" screen was kinda rare on one of the early Disney VHS tapes. I remember going to a video store since I was a kid when we used to rent Disney movies, but I don't know why it was label on one of the early videos, it was just for home use, not for rental use.

There were lots of video stores that rent Disney films while you are watching a Disney film until it gets returned after the movie was over.

To get back to this one, the 1980 blue FBI screens can be found on one of the first Disney VHS copies. I remember "The Black Hole", "Pete's Dragon", "Alice in Wonderland", "The Three Caballeros", "Mary Poppins", "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh", "Old Yeller" and many others that have the FBI screens used until 1983.

After a number of changes, it goes directly to the red/blue FBI screens where it was kinda short lived until 1984, and then goes to the red FBI screens, the dark red from 1985 and then back to the red until 1991 where it goes to the green FBI screens until 2000 where it goes back to the blue FBI screens since the last one back in 1983. The VHS and DVD versions does have the blue FBI screens, but it's not the same screens that they used on one of the first VHS tapes Disney ever put out. I found this on the 2000 copy of "Alice in Wonderland" under the "Gold Classic" name.

The only VHS tape I have from the "Gold Classic" line was "The Fox and the Hound" and does have the green FBI screens, not the blue. Here is the 2000 blue FBI screens courtesy of Videolover326 on YT.

                    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiO8bRi2J7s

If you've seen this one, the blue screens lasted from 2000 until 2005 where it was changed to the current "Anti-Piracy" screen instead of the previous one. I missed the FBI screens on Disney VHS tapes. :(

To musicradio77: In case you are interested, here's the opening and ending of the 1981 and 1982 prints of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh which has 2 previews and most likely one of the earliest examples of previews on home video. Not everyone had a VCR at the time though!

                        Here's the links:

                        2. Darby O'Gill and the Little People
                        3. Mary Poppins

                        The 1982 previews are:
