does anyone remember the name of those old Chinese dolls that you could open up and there was a smaller doll inside that you could open to reveal an even smaller doll that you could open........ and so on?

Chinese? Aren't those Russian dolls? Unless there are Chinese ones.

They are called Matryoshka or Babushka dolls.

RetroxBunny is correct, the dolls are of Russian origin and are sometimes called nesting dolls. I'm not aware of a Chinese version but that sounds interesting.

Kinda, the shape is right but the faces were Asian and they were wearing floral clothing with Chinese symbols on them.

the origin may be Russian but I'm sure other cultures have made them through out the years.
