Are you a fan of old traffic lights? This pedestrian crossing shown below has yellow posts, which were popular back in the old decades and also has old call buttons. The pedestrian signals have the old-style 'Walk/Don't Walk' text lenses. Many of these signals are becoming hard to find since they are being replaced with newer LED signals, which are more engergy efficient.

I don't know about being old or not, but I hate these things. In my area the button never works, people often go when it says don't walk because there are so many open opportunities where it neglects to change, and the few times it does say to walk it gives you less time than any normal human being can run before it changes back.

I miss the old ones in the uk they were much like the ones you have in your photo.
      aka pelican crossing

The modern ones have the walk, dont walk lights just above the button which is a pain in the rear. aka Toucan crossing

There were even older ones around when i was very young which were just a yellow flashing ball on a pole. aka Zebra crossing

Theres a blocked off road in my home town that still has the old style rubber and metal pressure switch to set off the lights before they had the detectors on top of the poles.

I think a lot of them show the stop walking sign so quickly so as to allow people ample time to cross. It just means if you see the sign to not start walking across the cross walk. If you already started and it shows the stop hand, you're good. It's just for people about to cross. I think. And we have some OLD SCHOOL lights in town, you can barely tell when the light is green, THOSE are dangerous.

Sorry, but no. Old traffic lights never quite did it for me.

Youtube is filled with people into this and many other things we may have no interest in. There are people into security lights, building alarms, vacuum cleaners, trains, air conditioners and many more things. They will have 100s of videos with nothing but. Not saying theskooterguy is an aspie, but many people heavily into stuff like this are. I have some interest people care nothing about, but none of them are an obsession.

Anyway I don't care for LED traffic lights. They had some kind of lights in the 80s that were really hard to see until you got up close. I think they used a mirror inside like a projector. Thank God they don't use those anymore because I found them unsafe. Most around here still use incandescent bulbs. I wish they would time them for night and daytime traffic rather than for just daytime traffic. Better yet use weight sensors on side roads. It is so annoying to wait at a light at night for 5 minutes when no one is coming.

I've actually seen old traffic lights for sale at this one flea market years ago. They would have made an awesome decoration but I didn't have any money that day.

When I think of "Traffic Lights", this song from the "Contractual Obligation" album by Monty Python's Flying Circus comes to mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GbPovgCP5BU

As for my town, there's only one traffic light. Ours' is a rather small town. If you hook a left at our town's traffic light, you stay in town. If you hook a right, you can go all the way to New Jersey.

The yellow flashing balls are also called 'Belisha Beacons'.

I don't care for the LED lights either, when it snows here in the Pittsburgh area, they do not generate enough heat to melt the snow like the old lights did and it is hard to see if they are red, yellow or green sometimes. We also have a mirror-like traffic light in a 5 way intersection local to me and there are times it is hard tell if it is red or green. Lastly, we have an old town here with a few old traffic lights that are dim and again, it is tough to tell if they are red and green unless it is dark. It sure makes my job a lot harder, being a delivery driver. :P

Fun Fact: You say that the buttons never work, but that's because most of them are Placebo Buttons. Meaning that the buttons are for your peace of mind, but really aren't connected to anything.

The same can be said with "close door" buttons on elevators.

                              Traffic lights are just suggestions.
