I remember back in the 80's (before An American Tale, but possible after The Last Unicorn) seeing commercials for a non-disney Pinocchio movie. He seemed to be in love with a red-haired girl, and during the commercial, you'd hear a woman sing "...fearlessly, my love will set you free."

Can't be quite sure, but it almost sounds like something either Filmation of Nelvana would make.

Only other non-Diz Pinocchio I can recall was "Pinocchio in Outer Space" (which used to air on TV a lot during the holiday seasons of the 70's).

There was one released in 84 titled "Adventures of Pinnochio."

There was an animated movie, actually I believe there was more than one produced by filmation in the 80s. I only remember them as being really creepy...not much else other than it freaked me out.

Right, there was a Pinnochio horror flick called "Pinnochio's Revenge"; the trailer is on this very website. The only non-Disney animated movie that springs to mind is "Pinnochio and the Emperor of the Night." I remember this movie because when he arrives at that movie's version of Pleasure Island (can't recall what they named it) there were a lot of bright, neon lights--it had a very trippy look to it.

That sounds right...I remember the red-haired girl Pinocchio liked was somebody's slave or puppet, and The Emperor Of The Night does ring a bell...

There was a live-action Pinnochio movie with Jonathan Taylor Thomas. It was really weird. I remember the part in the movie where he tells Gepetto, "Hey...could you carve me a girlfriend?" *Yuk* I didn't really like this movie....

I agree. The scene where all the boys turn into jackasses (donkeys) scared the hell out of me!

Is this the one where Pinocchio is singing some song like,
                            "Let's go dancing, dancing,
                            Let's go dancing, dancing,
                            Come on move those feet..."

I was hoping that would be on this year. It was almost like that Pinocchio's Christmas show they put on ABC Family Channel every year. The animation is just like Santa Claus is Coming to Town.

There was also a Christmas special called Pinnochio's Christmas.

1965's Pinocchio In Outer Space. Arnold Stang was the voice of Nurtle The Turtle...

Sorry, never gave a confirmation on this. It was Pinocchio and The Emperor Of Night. Still love the Blue Fairy's song

You have heart and soul enough
You'll need them both when life gets rough
But nothing works without love, so let love guide your way
You are free to grow and be
whatever you may want to be
But when the night surrounds you remember what I say

Love is the light inside your heart
when you stumble in the dark
If you'll only let love shine
                                  there's no deceiving
you'll find out, it's all believing
Love is the light inside your heart
It won't let life fall apart
So keep on shining your light every day

And in this turning world, when I see you again
I hope you'll still know what makes the heart grow

Love is the light inside your heart
Where your freedom has to start
                                  and wherever you may be
the endless light of love will set you free
                                  Look for the light
                                  Still burning bright

Nothing good ever came of trying to do a live action Pinocchio. NOTHING.
