(note: ive brought this up before, but i figured it needed its own topic)
Was anyone ever freaked out by the video box covers for horror films? I remember being scared by the covers of demons, sleepaway camp, nightmare on elm st. 1, friday the 13th the new beginning, dead end drive in, faces of death (not the new ones with the grim reaper, the 80s ones had some freaky zombie surgeon), cujo, ghoulies, xtro and i spit on your grave. Was anyone else traumatized just by looking at the video box covers at your locan video store?

My sister was afraid of Chucky on the Cild's Play videos, because once we accidentally watched some of the movie and when it got kind of scary, she began to cry, and I had to change the channel, she has been scared of Chucky ever since.

I was more freaked out that the box-covers were about 100x more thrilling than the movie inside.

I used to rent based upon the box-cover alone, as in the late 80's, we didn't have the internet and I looooooved horror flicks, so I based a lot of my movie choices based upon how gory & scary the front box looked and how bloody the screen caps were on the back.

It was a half & half deal. Sometimes came up with a lot of dogs & sometimes came up with some winners. Either way, back then movie rentals were like a buck or $1.50, so it's not like I was losing out on too much & they easily rented R gore movies to minors.
