Anyone remember seeing the old disney classic animated films in theaters? I remember seeing a couple of there old films like Peter Pan, the Jungle Book, and Bambi when they were rereleased in theaters in the late 80's/early 90's. Anyone else remember seeing them? And would anyone go see them again if they were rereleased in theaters? I might, I think it'd be kinda cool.

I sure do! I remember seeing Cinderella and Snow White distinctly. I would love it if they started doing that again, it's not the same on the TV screen. I personally would love to see a re-release of Fantasia.

Ah, Snow White...I saw that too but totally forgot about it. Yes, Fantasia would be awesome to see in the theater. I just think it'd be awesome to see them on the big screen again.

I wish I had, but my mum only took me to see new Disney movies at the cinema. Got all the classics in the Disney home video craze of the early 90s, though.

Actually, I remember seeing Fantasia in the theaters for music class. Forgot what year though!

I saw a few; Snow White, Peter Pan, Fantaisia, Piniochio, and Bambi. I can't remember if I had seen Cinderella in the theatres or not.

I saw "Song of the South" the last time that it was ever released in the US -- sometime in the mid-80s. That film desperately needs to be released in its entirety. I also saw "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad," "Bambi" and "101 Dalmations" on the bigscreen during that same era.

I specifically remember seeing The Jungle Book with my grandma and Snow White on a field trip, but I probably saw a few others. Although, being that young I thought they were out in theatres for the first time.
I wish they would re-release some of them again. I love those Disney movies.

I've seen the re-releases of "Peter Pan" and "Fantasia" since I was a youngster. They don't make Disney reissues like that anymore in around 1994 or something. In the late 90's, Disney had brought back reissues of "The Little Mermaid", "Oliver & Company" and "Beauty and the Beast" in 2002 since it was the first Disney reissue ever to put on the Imax screen. 20 years ago, "Song of the South" was the last time that Disney re-released it in the US. I've never seen the movie, because it's not on VHS and DVD at that point because of black stereotypes. Bob Iger of Disney said that at the Shareholdrs Meeting that "Right now, we're not going to have plans to release it, sorry!" :( That's too bad.

The stereotypes in "Song of the South" shouldn't keep them from releasing it, because they're really not that bad. Certainly not on the level of "The Jazz Singer" or "Amos and Andy," both of which are easy to find. The biggest stereotypes in the film are probably those revolving around Brer Rabbit and the "tar baby" -- and that clip's made it's way into tons of Disney compilations and publications over the years. I don't understand Disney's logic in refusing to reissue it... though I also don't understand why they've edited footage out of "Fantasia." Perhaps it's not politically correct NOW, but it wasn't really a thought back then.

Disney needs to just put a disclaimer before the movie that says "we're not racist" and release Song of the South on DVD already. Or in theaters. I'd kill to see it in theaters.

I went to see The Little Mermaid around 1997. The theaters around here generally didn't carry the Disney re-releases. The Little Mermaid is the only one I can remember coming around here.

Not that I've ever heard. The PAL video of "Song of the South" runs three minutes short of the official running time, due to some sort of glitch in time conversion on UK systems, but it's supposed to be uncut. There's a wonderful fan site for the film, filled with tons of images and info, located here:

Disney is just loosing money by not putting Song of the South on DVD. I have a bootlegged copy I bought off EBAY for $20, thinking it was a Japanese import as advertised. The quality is really good and everything. Disney is just loosing money by not putting it out because people are still buying it illegally.
