Oh yes! I remember the big debate was Beta vs. VHS. We had the Beta, guess we lost out on that one. I had a lot of great shows and videos on those tapes too, never to be seen again...Now its Blu Ray vs HDTV. I'm waiting to be on the winning side this time!

Heck yes, the age of the VHS was a very magical time-- VHS is so much cooler, even today! 8)

        What about Laserdiscs? Remember?

I can even remember the very first Video Rental Store that opened up in my neighborhood.

It really doesn't seem like it was that long ago that I was still renting and buying movies on VHS. I mean, I just made the switch over to DVD in 2002. I still frequently use VHS tapes for recording.

VHS tapes are great! Most of my movie collection is on VHS. VCR players are getting very hard to find sadly. Mine broke last year, and I had to go to 5 diffrent stores to find one!

I love VHS! VHS is so much easier to record shows on than DVD. DVD is great also, but VHS is classic.

Of course I do. I never get rid of my videos unless they are broken. I prefer videos over DVDs even though videos don't have all those fancy features.

DVDs are the greatest thing about the '00s but we can't forget VHS, even if they've gotten to the point of near death cause of special features and stuff.

I have a Collector's Edition VHS of Jurassic Park that's the same as the DVD and all the features from the DVD are on a 2nd tape cause they won't fit on the tape with the movie on it and they just play one after the other. Pretty good but so much easier on DVD.

I still have VHS tapes. Next year I'm going to try and convert them all to DVD.

I want to convert my VHS tapes to DVD, but I'll have to get past the copyright code on some of them.

VHS does have a mystical, special quality to them, but I agree that DVDs have better quality over a longer period of time. Most of my movies are VHS, but I have a lot of DVDs as well. Almost all my cartoon collection is in VHS.

How about those Blu-rays and HDDVDs? I thought DVDs were good enough, but now stores have to make us buy new movie players.

Back in the day you were't a hotshot unless you had a 4-head VCR.

That really grinds my gears too Alibra. They finally start releasing some really great titles and stuff that had only been on VHS or even Beta now and then they talk about possibly retiring DVD as a format. Apparently at least with HDVD players you can still play regular DVDs so I'm hoping they win the HDDVD/ Blue-Ray format war.

It's really sad, one of the last neighborhood video stores just closed down a month or so ago. Oh man, I remember going to 3 or 4 different mom and pop video stores (back before Blockbuster and Hollywood Video) and they all had the same smell to them, this delicious plastic and foam smell. One had these big promo vhs boxes hanging from the celing, and a huge rubber foam Gumby.

The walls were just jampacked with videos. And you'd check out, and they'd take the video box, and get you the actual tape in this hard plastic box with the title on the outside... and the holographic sticker on the tape itself begging the viewer to be kind and rewind.

It's really sad now, one video store is a salon, and the other 3 are either a STARBUCKS or a CARIBOU, or some other stupid coffee house because the "old neighborhood" has become an upscale yuppie volkswagen driving ipod toting YUPPIE GHETTO!! (no offense to our volkswagen and ipod toting friends out there)

I love VHS still, it's cheap, the gear required to watch it is cheap, and it's all high quality if you know how to tweak/repair the "rig" everything is hooked into for maximum picture quality and sound.

                                  82' VCR = $4.99!
                                  VHS Tapes = $0.50 each!
                                  84' Mitsubishi 20" Console TV = $12.99
Being able to watch all that old 80's goodness just like the good old days = Priceless

VCR's aren't nearly as hard to find, since they now have a combo with a DVD Player. Other new models even includes DVD Recorders as well.

But still, I like VHS as well as DVDs. I buy a whole bunch of Blank VHS at the 99cent Only Stores for recording and purchasing some rare shows that aren't on DVD.

I still like VHS stuff. It's more durable, imo, and one scratch isn't going to ruin the entire thing and keep it from playing, like a DVD does sometimes. A pro for a DVD, though, is space. It takes up a lot less of it compared to VHS and Beta.

The only thing I do dislike about VHS is tracking issues. Our old VCR (circa 1988 [maybe earlier]) had a button for that, but that VCR died on us a few years ago. It got to the point where it started to eat tapes. You don't know how much I miss it. I still kept using that thing, but I had to give it up.

Now, the later model VCRs don't seem to have a tracking button or option, and we can't adjust the tape if trying to play it through a VCR other than the one your originally taped it on. I know that the VCR is supposed to automatically adjust it, but most of the time, it doesn't.
