it is time my retro children to get what we deserve. Without us nickelodeon would not still be nor other channels would not grow as it has without kids watching Saturday morning cartoons on their channels. But they all but forgotten us the people who are the reason they are as big as they are.
There for we must remind them why they got so big. We the Retro children of the 70s through 90s must boycott Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, CBS, ABC, and NBC. The reason we must boycott all these channels is if you remember shows like the animated tales from the crypt, schoolhouse rock,
turbo teen, and more were on these channels. Our demand is that they give us one channel featuring the cartoons and shows of the 70s through 90s that air on these channels. One channel is not hard to ask for and if they do not give in to our demands then we boycott each of these channels. I realize it can be hard for those who have children I will not make u keep your children from watching. But you should not watch it if you agree to the boycott plans.

PLANS
------------------------------------------------
This is the plan.(Me and my brothers and sister has been working on this for a couple of months)

1.Send emails or Letters to each television company(If you know the email addresses that would be great)
The letters should not contain cursing or anger in any form or we will not be taken seriously.
Below this is a version you can use if you don't have any ideas what to write. You should send a copy to each company
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear(Company name),
I am (Name) and my purpose of writing you is to remind you of what you have forgotten.
You have forgotten me and the many kids of the (Year). We helped your station grow during the (Year), and yet you have abandoned us. For years we have cried out for a channel of our own yet you have ignored them. Therefore in order to get what we do deserve we are prepared to go as far as a nation wide boycott of your channel. We do not wish to do this, but unless our demands are met we will have no other choice.

In hopes of a cooperative ending,
(Your name)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2.Now we wait for their response. if they agree then YAY!! If not then the hard part starts. That is to gather all the 70s through 90s generation kids and spread the word and stop watching those channels. I would be great if your kids stop but that is up to them. You should know it could take anywhere from a month to a year to win so prepare yourself if you like these channel instead rent dvds of your favorite shows or watch other channels.

3.The third plan is once we got all retro kids support is to go public with it. Such as tell you local television station, then grow from there by maybe contacting the national news, ect. Send out flyers or have your friends tell their friends.

4.This is if they don't give in on #2 then after #3 They will give in eventually then we tell them what we want (such as which shows from which channel) and demand a date for them to fufill it.

This is the plan if you like it say Agree because all of you must want this to happen. If there is something you don't like in this plan also let me know so i can fix it. Also I need certain people to do certain jobs they are:

1.Boycott Representatives: it is the job of the rep to help gather people nation wide to our cause. Once we get to step for it is their job to plan the gathering at the station meeting.

2.Advertisement Committee: It is their job to get the connections to get us on national and state news. It would be even great if we can get stars from our generation shows to support us, such as Bill Cosby, Bill Nye, and Mark Summers.

3.Web Design Committee: It is the job of this committee to make a web site that can help bring people together for this boycott. it would be great if Retro Junk Admin would make a board on this site where everyone can talk about the boycott and what is happening in it. If so we can put a link for the board on the web site.

4.Graphics Committee: It is the job of the Graphic committee to create signs maybe commercials for local stations to help the Advertisement committee advertise.

These are the job each group should have no more than 20 members each. If you would like to join please put it in post the position and how do you qualify for it.

Once again if you agree say Agree above any additional post you make in this thread.

THANK YOU!!!

Um, hello... you should have already stopped watching these channels a long time ago.

You're not a kid anymore--hate to break it to ya. And I would love to be an executive at Nickelodeon and receive this petition. It would make me laugh until I spilt my thousand dollar cocktail all over my Gucci loafers.

Because...and please hear me here... you are NOT in their TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC anymore. Therefore, who cares?

This is not who they cater to anymore:

    They serve the following population:

But it is quite amusing (and sort of cute) that you've spent all this time coming up with this and even assigning committees. I wish you all the best, but it's my gut instinct that your time would be better served reviving your favorite childhood television shows in the DVD section here:

Or by following this guy's advice:

It is only a idea also I have a life,I own a business and have a fiance. However there has been a lot of post on this forum about about wishing this was back and wishing that was back, and a lot of what if. This is just a plan for those who want these things. if you don't want them that is fine but this is just a option for those who do. By the way people still watch Nickelodeon for shows like the cosby show it may be nick at nite but it is still on nickelodeon, people also watch Cartoon network to see adult swim.

I miss alot of the things that we had back in my younger days. Nintendo, 4 Square, the simpleness of walking down the street and feeling comfortable of your neighbors. Times change. Everything chamnges. I still watch The Smurfs on cable with my kids. And you can pretty much find any old tv sticom or cartoon on tv or on DVD. It is a parents responsibilty to monitor what kids watch and when.

It's just stupid (and selfish) of our generation to think we can, or should, demand that all our old favorite shows should be what's on the air today. I'm quite sure that if my dad would've had his way, my Transformers and G.I. Joe would've been taken off the air and replaced with re-runs of Andy Griffith, the Rifleman, Gunsmoke and Bonanza.

You just gotta remember that twenty or thirty years from now, these kids who are watching these new shows are going to establish websites just like this just so they can remember THEIR favorite shows. Who are we to take away the memories that THEY are making? What's more, what makes us think that our generation is the only one deserving of service?

I've honestly never seen so many folks who are supposed to be grown who STILL watch these channels and constantly complain that they aren't being served when they are not the target demographic. Yes, they don't play my favorite shows on TV anymore, as they were cancelled MANY years ago. I accept that. I don't sit around with Nick or Cartoon Network on just so I can scream at the screen that "Transformers Animated"--which is good, by the way--isn't G1. If I want G1, I pop in the DVD set I have (which contains every single episode.)

Or better yet, I surf on over to TV that is more appropriate for my age, like G4, Spike, TruTV, A&E, HBO, or any of the countless other quality programs that do in fact exist. Just freakin' GROW UP, why don't ya...

And do you really think that one channel could service the entire 70s-90s retro crowd? I might want to see "You Can't Do That on TV" but I don't care for "Rocko's Modern Life." What about those who'd rather watch "Airwolf" but are stuck with more "Fresh Prince" re-runs? You can't please everyone.

(I'm, for the moment, totally glossing over the fact that this channel already exists, and is named TV Land.)

Now...all that aside... your demands sent in to the network to create a new cable channel are going to be mostly useless, as they have little to no power over which channels your cable company provides. If you are going to appeal to someone, I suggest this would be better sent to Comcast or Charter, or whoever does your local cable.

By the way, could somebody name an example within the past thirty years where a national boycott ever really worked?

Anyway... you guys have fun with your little petition. It just seems a shame to put that much effort into something that is going to be thrown directly into the trash.

(1.) Because we're not as entitled as we'd like to believe.

(2.) TV Land isn't for boomers anymore. They show stuff that I grew up with.

I don't know if it's been pointed out by velcrohead already, but I thought they already have made channels for that.
Cartoon Network made Boomerang {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_programs_broadcast_by_Boomerang}. Nickelodeon has made "The N" {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_programs_broadcast_by_The_N}. And Disney has made "Toon Disney" {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_programs_broadcast_by_Toon_Disney}.
I understand it isn't all the shows we'd like, but it's a lot of time and money to run a television channel! They've only got so many hours to fill, and they've got an entire nation of differing opinions to please. I'd cut them some slack.

Much as I'd like to see a channel with Dangermouse and The Great Space Coaster, it ain't gonna happen. Networks have to market to the vast majority and the Vast Majority of KIDS can't sit still for a freekin 4 seconds and have to be constantly stimulated with STUFF or they'll blow up. Adults, want nothing but "sharp" "witty" "smart" shows with sex as a constant underlying theme and no other morals.

I think it says something when I watch my "Sesame Street Old School" DVD and they have a disclaimer that says "none of this stuff is appropriate for kids today" why? Because kids can't sit still for 5 minutes, or none of it is PC.

As for boycotting? I don't think it's going to make a diff. Cynical? Yeah. I haven't watched any Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network or Boomerang (because they don't really show a LOT of retro stuff, just the sell out stuff like Scooby).

I've given up on TV really. There's nothing good on anyway. The occasional re-run of Full House is fun, but even that isn't on so much any more. You might just have to invest in the box sets of the old series's.

This isn't going to work. GIVE IT UP ALREADY.

Can you guys just let Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network go already? Follow Velcrohead's advice. Time to move on already. Just buy DVDs of your favorite shows and if you can't afford them...GET A DAMN JOB AND SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Um, I think YCDT has got the majority opinion on this case. It's good to daydream, but it won't be much of a priority for the television stations to create a re-run channel. They know more than anyone that "Re-runs get old after awhile" even for any audience. Even we would once again get tired of them. We tend to want new things after awhile. I'd love to have a channel like that, but it wouldn't be a year before I started flipping back to the other channels.

Yeah, I agree, dude. It would be only a matter of months before I get bored with a channel like this. Besides, you have TV Land, Boomerang, DVDs and the internet as options of preserving the old TV shows. Besides, chances are, a channel like this may flop in the ratings. There's only so much money old TV shows can make. So you are better off buying the DVDs.

I've decided to go a totally different route... I'm just turning my television OFF for the day. Nuff sitting around the tube, much less writing bogus petitions about it.
