Yes I was never home and often was in trouble for staying outside with my friends long. Kick ball, bike riding, trampolenes, and a lot of other stuff :)

I had a lot of friends.
I distinctly remember in another thread you saying you never had a friend.

I used to play outside all the time. Some days, I'd go outside in the morning and wouldn't come in until that evening. Of course this changed as I got older, naturally.

I still find it shocking that only six percent of children play outside now, so Jay Leno said. I would still like to see where he got that statistic from.

Didn't really hang out outside till I got older. Mostly 10-13, and only really on Fridays and Saturdays. It was really fun throwing snow at the passing buses.

I was rarely in the house as a kid. I went in for drinks, dinner, and when Dukes of Hazard was on. Rainy days sucked and we usually still found a way to go out.

My kids are the same now. My youngest can entertain herself for hours with a bucket, a spoon and a pile of dirt.

*Claps* that's the way it should be! I was the same way as a kid. I used to play in the dirt and mud sometimes as a kid. lol I used to love playing in the rain. Splashing in puddles and such during the summer. At my cousin's house, there was a creek nearby, and we used to play in that. I didn't need all that high-tech stuff to entertain myself. I do know if I ever have children, I'm definitely going to let them play the old-fashioned way, where the best toy was one's imagination.

You missed out by going inside when it got dark. Night tag/hide-n-seek with flashlight was the shit.

Mom's rule was when the street light came on, I had to come inside. ^^

There were times, during the summer, though, when I was allowed to play outside like early evening and it's partially dark. Hide and seek at that time was fun. I guess my mother was more lenient during the summer months, but during the school year, no if ands or buts. Street light came on, I was to be walking in the door. I disobeyed once...I was grounded so bad too for that.

Anywho, I live in a suburban area, and it was pretty quiet around here. I think the main reason she had that rule, not counting the summer, was due to the fact that I had to be up early every morning, and didn't want me falling asleep in school. Now that I'm thinking more about it, I think I did hang outside at night a lot during the summer months. During the summer, I think I do recall her giving me a time to be in as opposed to the street light rule, like during the school year.

You have helped me to trigger lost memories. lol

My youngest is in by dark because she goes to sleep as soon as it gets dark. She is up with the sun every morning though. Her latest obsession is the slip-n-slide I bought her for ten bucks. I put it on the hill (package says not to for some reason lol) and she slides half the day, then plays in the dirt while still wet. That is the reason for the reoccurring use of the carpet cleaner at my house but your only little once, gotta live it up.
Last week she told me should could fly. I'm scared of the hospital bill that comment has attached to it. Time will tell.

Do they even still make slip and slides? It just hit me, I haven't seen a slip and slide commercial once since summer started. I remember Crocodile Mile. Slip & Slide was fun as a kid.

I liked going outside alot as a kid cause there were woods to side and in the back of my house, there was a big hill and field nearby, a park that wasn't that far away that had a good playground and there were alot of beaches in the area. Nova Scotia was a great place to grow up as a kid. Saturday morning I'd stay in usually to watch tv, Saturday afternoon and all of Sunday I would be outside the majority of the time.

Yes they still make slip and slids. I thought about buying one for my next get together at my house.

I was always outside as a kid dirty head to toe. I got stung by bees, bit by fire ants, cut, scapes, bruses, burns you name it. That how kids get tough, not by sitting down playing video games and chatting online. Anyway my parents bought me a CB radio for xmas when I was 11 and I started staying up late talking on it. I would sleep all day and stopped going outside. The fact I also got into videogames kept me in the house as well. Also there was some neighborhood drama that made me not want to go outside. Plus it was hot as hell outside. So from the age of 12 to the age of 15 I stayed in the house most of the time. When I got burned out on the videogames and CB I started going back outside again.

I was always outside. When I was younger we never had cable, so tv wasn't that exciting. Although my brother and I would get in trouble for staying up and playing Sega.

We had a big backyard, with a trampolene, and an above ground pool, slip and slide, and a lot of sunshine living in AZ. We would ride our bikes alot, roller blade, do stuff with friends in our neighborhood. My family went camping in the desert a lot too, which I truly miss.

When we moved to Ohio we weren't outside as much, mainly because we had no sidewalks so going over someones house wasn't as easy as hopping on your bike and just going, we had to actually get a ride.

                                    All the time!
My favorite things to do were:
                                    Kick The Can
                                    Hide & Seek
                                    Dodgeball
                                    Manhunt
                                    Baseball
                                    Football
                                    Kick Ball
                                    Wrestling
Riding A Bike (with a card in the spokes so it sounded like a motorcycle)

its sad that the majority of kids today dont go outside and play, and in today's society..I dont blame them

My parents kept me locked in a cage in the basement, occasionally throwing me table scraps.

Of course I played outside. What kind of question is this?

I played outside a lot. My sisters and I would play games when our neighbors came over or sometimes we'd invent games to make outdoor chores more fun. We turned picking the weeds into a racing game of sorts. Two people had to run across the yard and pick weeds from the weed line and then get back to home base. One person guarded the weeds with a squirt gun and if you got squirted before you got back to the base you had to take a turn guarding the weeds.
Recipe for nostalgia: Mix 80's and 90's culture. Stir in some good memories. Add a dash of reflection. Mixture should now taste bittersweet. Shake well and enjoy!
