Long before Lost and following the sappiness of Gilligan (ugh!),these treacherous paradises were making life hard for at least more than one person.

1) Danger Island

First aired in 1968,this cliffhanger-styled miniseries about a scientist, his intrepid prettyboy assistant and his mandatory beautiful daughter ran as a segment of the Banana Splits Adventure Hour. It was directed by Richard Donner,so you can see where he got his mix of slaptick comedy and adventuring later popularized in The Goonies.

2) The Fantastic Journey

Now here's a series that could be considered the direct predecesor of Lost. It tells the story of several castaways from different time periods that had become stranded in the Bermuda Triangle. A man from the 23rd century (possesing all kinds of futuristic crap),a hot alien chick from the remote past,an anarquist scientist from the 1960s (played by the always great Roddy MacDowall),a doctor from "the Present" (sporting a b*tching 'fro!) and the mandatory annoying kid are all forced to work together to...well,find a way to get back to their respective periods.

Sadly, their journey was never finished as NBC axed the series in June 1977 after only five months running. Some of the concepts seen throught the series seem suspiciously similar to those that appeared in a British sci-fi series called Journey into the Unknown (in which MacDowall also starred). NBC would try to relaunch the series basic premise in the mid 80s under the title Otherworld, and then again more successfuly in the 90s with Sliders.

3) Mystery Island

Mystery Island was pretty much a re-issue of Danger Island, only this time with a much,MUCH ludicrous plot (Hanna Barbera Productions had jumped the shark when it was made). This time is the turn for manly-man captain Chuck, slutty beau Sue,geeky chap Sandy and his 5-ton robot P.O.P.S. to face the dangers of...WTF,a ROBOT?! Yes,this was the sad end of the original Lost in Space robot. But if you think that's ridiculous, just wait until you meet the series switch-flippin' villain (drumroll) Doctor Strange. This guy managed to build a huge Dr. Evil-like lair in the middle of nowhere,BUT he needed a particular component that just happened to be in our heroes' robot. Of course, each week Dr Strange goons consistently failed to capture the robot, much to the chagrin of Dr. Strange.

I'm probably forgetting a couple more islands from that time (the TV movie The Challenge comes to mind),but I thinkl these will do. just remember,if you head down to the Caribbean, don't forget to pack your 5-ton robot...

Don't forget the ever popular "Dr. Shrinker" from the The Krofft Supershow.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Shrinker

Short version, two guys and a girl crash their plane on a island. The meet a mad scientist and his Igor like assistant who uses a shrinking ray on them and reduces them to about 6 inches tall. Each episode was basically the same. As Dr. Shrinker himself said in one episode..."I chase the Shrinkies. I catch the Shrinkies. The Shrinkies escape. It's a vicious cycle and it's driving me mad!" Not to mention everybody else during the 70's who watched this show on Saturday mornings.

Couldn't find a video on youtube, maybe they were to small to see. :D

Outstanding Guild_Navigator! Talk about a blast from the past. This is so cool. From The Krofft Supershow I loved "Electra Woman and Dyna Girl".

Thanks for the link to "Danger Island". I first saw it as part of the 1967 anthology series "Off to see the Wizard" which aired Friday nights on ABC.
