I was just at Funcoland/Detroit today, and i bought a strange looking VHS of Polar Express. The vhs case has a picture with the title "Tom hanks The POlar Express" at the top, in its common title form, but it is on a picture of the train passing the ChristmAS Tree passing elfs. On the side of the vhs case is white, and it shows a small picture of the front of the case at the top, with the PoLAR Express title in black print (as well as the warner Brothers logo below it it, but the title is sideways, as other vhs cases have, and below the Warner logO, a Castle Rock logo is also sideways. the wired thing is, the logo isn't even on the tape! on the back of the vhs case, it is blue with a diragram of the fireman with the red hair, with the title under it. above the redhaired fireman diragram is a credit to the movie which says "AMazing! You've bever seen anything like it." - joel Siegel, Good Morning America/Abc

they don't even show the movie description!
the vhs tape itself has a white label, with all the printing on it sideways (as some fox movies do), and it says in black text:
Tom HAnk's THE Polar Express (in its common title)
and it has the black warner Home ViDEO logo. under that it says:
color/100 minutes, the rated g logo, the region 1 logo
and it has the fbi warning under all of it.

okay, now with the movie.
first, as you first play the tape, it shows the 20th century fox logo
but it is hard to make out, because there was a bunch of "lines" going through the screen.
after the logo, on a black screen is a frozen Shangri-La palm tree logo
and there is a sound effect in the background, which sounds like a girl talking during it, but i couldn't make it out but she must of been in the audience when the sound effect took place. and then it shows the movie, which looks pretty old and not digitaly remastered (or in other words, not like actual VHS or DVD both of which came out) the colors were lighter and there was a lot of "lines" in the movie, and the music and sound is a bit muffled. I haven't watched the whole movie yet, but I will edit this post when I find out more stuff on this strange copy of the movie.

Maybe a bootleg. I don't think that movie was ever released to VHS.

If your hearing voices in the background, those are people talking in the movie theater, so it is most likely a bootleg. I noticed stuff like this in my Lion King bootleg.

Those movies that were being filmed in the theature and being distributed on DVD, it makes me wonder how the people filming would actually get away with it throughout the whole movie, could be not enough secerity or something.

That said, I did get a bootleg copy of Star Wars: The Clone Wars before it got released on DVD. Suprisingly enough, it didn't look like it was recorded in a movie theature.

I think I remember hearing that it was nabbed somehow and distributed online, before the movie was shown. So I guess that's why.

It was officially released on VHS here in the UK.

This sort of thing has been going on or a long while now. These days a quicker method of getting "hand cam" versions of movies out there is through online venues like Bit Torrent.

No, it was on its last legs. Wasn't officially phased out until 2006. The last known (and rather hard to find) VHS release in the UK was Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were Rabbit.

The only bootleg I own like that is my Grindhouse bootleg. I loved the movie so much I had to download it the next day. I've since paid it forward by buying both Grindhouse films on DVD, but there's a part of me that prefers the bootleg over the DVDs for a couple reasons. A. The bootleg has all the fake trailers while Dimension Studios or whoever distributes the DVDs cut them from the special features (and yes, I have the two disc version of both movies and they're not on there) and B. It was recorded in the theater so you can hear the audience laugh, gasp, or cheer when something gross, scary, or awesome happens. I kinda like that. It's almost like being at the theater.

OK, now why I underlined some parts.
                        1. That picture of the train passing elves was not the DVD's cover when it got released.
                        2. The fireman with red hair was not in the movie. ( Or, are you talking about the conductor?)
                        3. The girl possibly was saying "Please don't film the movie, sir/lady!" or "Look at that palm tree!"
                        4. "never" is spelled wrong.

                        Funcolands still exist?

Yes, some are still here, some are GameStops now.
"Hey, where did you learn to drive? On the bumper cars at the amusement park?"

When Gamestop bought out stores such as EB Games and Funcoland, the lease for the place for x amount of years still stays. So when Gamestop buys Funcoland, and Funcoland just renewed their ten-year lease or whatever, Gamestop has to wait 10 years for the lease to be up and the name Funcoland be changed to Gamestop.

That's why there are still Babbages, ETC

Here in the USA, the last movie ever to realease to VHS-according to Wikipedia-was Borat.
