I remembered watching this fantastic animated follow-up on Nickoldeon back in the 80's when i was 4 in 1986 to 5 in 1987, this show got me into Star Trek. It's made by the makers of He-Man Filmation and introduced two interesting characters especially that hot as hell feline alien chick M'ress whom i had the hots for at age 4.

I bought the series on DVD a couple of weeks ago at Walmart*, it was only $15.00.
It's not nearly as good as I remember when I was 6.

Hey! Who wants to watch the First episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series?
It's titled "Beyond the Farthest Star" from September 1973:

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6G_ozwe5ws

Here's the lowdown: While on routine exploration, the Enterprise is pulled off course by the gravity of a brown dwarf star. Once trapped in orbit around the star, they discover an alien derelict spaceship that's millions of years old.

A closer investigation by the landing party seems to indcate that the alien ship's crew destroyed their own craft! But why?

The master console onboard the strange ship's bridge reveals the presence of an alien entity, which needs a warp drive ship to escape from the brown dwarf star. When the entity beams aboard the Enterprise, Captain Kirk must find a way to get rid of it, without destroying his ship in the process.

Yes, this is a Filmation series, but notice the production values. Movement that should be smooth flowing ends up looking broken and choppy. Scenes that require the Enterprise to move are simple "panned" shots with odd angles.

While the characters look correct, the angles of drawing are so limited that movement appears as "stills", merged together. The same scenes, including character positions, are used numerous times almost to the point of distraction.

If you're like me, you'll soon discover that your mind fills in the gaps in the animation. The desire to have this cartoon work is strong in me, so I forgive it's flaws - but it takes work!

Who cares about the animation, the writing and stories is what matters.

It was definitely worth of being a great spin-off to the classic series. And wouldn't be cool to see both M'ress and Arrex reintroduced in live-action for the Star Trek reboot sequel?

Who else thought M'ress was one fine piece of ass for an alien? i mean nothing beats space babes, no matter what they look like.

This was one of my first exposures to Star Trek. While it's not as good as I remembered it I still think it was well written and it still feels like the Trek Universe. I can't say that about Voyager or Enterprise.

I remember it came on Nickelodeon back in the day before i would go to school. Later it came on the Sci-Fi Channel and TV Land.
