Don't remember if we ever did a thread on this, but......

We finally got RTV here in Houston this past year on a sub channel on a low powered station. With my rooftop antenna I get about a 70% signal strength which means people with indoor antenna's may have a problem getting it.

Here is a list of their programing

http://www.myretrotv.com/shows.html

Unfortunatly my DVR doesn't get the guide info so I have to do manual recordings. Not many shows I care for, but there are a few.

We also get Antenna TV which has shows like Nick at Nite. They are a sub channel of one of the major channels. I also get the program guide on my DVR.

Either of these are on cable or satellite that I know of.

I have them as OTA Antenna broadcasts, I don't watch them that much though.

My aunt told me about Antenna TV last Friday. Whenever I'm able to watch the upstairs TV, I watch it. It's nice to watch the Partridge Family, since it's a show I've always really liked and hadn't seen in years, along with Dennis the Menace.

I get them both in my FiOS TV package, but rarely watch them. I don't watch live TV too often, but if these stations had On Demand I'd be all over it.

The interesting thing about Antenna TV is that, with very few exceptions, all of the programs and movies that air on there are owned by Sony. They've aired some rare 80s movies because of that (like "The Legend Of Billie Jean", for example). I'm just wondering if they'll air some of Sony's raunchier titles like "Hardbodies" and "Spring Break". It could happen, I think...After all, they aired the R-rated 90s movie "Red Rock West" at 11:00 AM a few weeks ago.

I just recently found out that I did have RTV on one of my Comcast channels. Though to be honest, I would pretty much perfer what's on Antenna TV since that channel has good shows like Married... With Children, Dennis the Menace, All in the Family, and Father Knows Best. Not to mention Totally Tooned In with classic theatrical cartoons that's better than the cartoons on RTV (just a bunch of Filmation crap there).

Yea Antenna TV has a much better lineup of shows. BTW I tried watching Family Matters on Nick at Night the other night. The amount of commercials were too much for me. I can't be sure, but it looked like they were cut down for time even more than than what they normally are in syndication. From what I have seen Antenna TV and RTV doesn't cut them like that. Screw Viacom :P

I find it funny how RTV does the DTMF tones to signal local ads insertions like cable did in the 80s. Not sure if they are doing for nostalgic reasons or if their equiptment is just really old. :?

RTV seems to have a lot of Universal shows.

Nick at Nite and TV Land both recut their shows to add more commercials. I was watching an episode of Home Improvement at 4 AM, and it randomly cut to a commercial in the middle of a conversation during the laugh track. When it came back, it didn't even pick up where it left off. These are the only stations that do this, to my knowledge at least. I avoid Nick because of this.

I remember ABC family used to show a lot of the TGIF shows uncut which was pretty cool (not sure now). I saw an episode of Cheers on one of the HD channels being shown uncut too in wide screen. Sadly FX is almost as bad as Nick when it comes to cutting shows for time. BTW most shows prior to the 1980s ran 25 minutes long before commercials and 23 minutes after in their original run. When they go into syndication they are cut to 21 minutes. This means Nick must be cutting an awful lot out.

I found RTV and Antenna TV have custom programming for each market. If a particular show is shown on another station they will not show it in that market. This is why they are not on satellite.

Here in Akron, Ohio Retro TV is found on WAOH Channel 29 along with its twin W35AX Cleveland which are the only low-power stations left brodcasting in analog(although not for much longer)and Antenna TV was recently added as a digital subchannel on WJW Fox 8. I sometimes watch Retro TV but WJW's didtal signal is pretty much impossible to receive outside of the Cleveland area and of course, Time Warner's QAM digital signals on an HDTV with analog cable never work It's a shame because I've heard Antenna TV has a lot of good sitcoms and other shows from the 50s all the way through to the 90s.
