Okay, I now officially own my copy of the official DVDs.
Review:
The Cover:
Man, this was an unexpected bonus, even if its not important. The front has one of those fake holographic things that changes the view as you change the angle you look at it. It background doesn't actually move, but lightning crackles around the sword of omen's blade. Sweet.
Special Features:
Yes, it has special features! The one on this set is "The fans speak out", hosted by Will Wheaton. Its basically about 15 minutes of them talking about their good memories of Thundercats, Will (aka Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: Next Gen) talking about how he had a thing for Cheetara (well, who didn't?). More importantly though, the next disc set is going to have the Making Of stuff we all want!
Animation:
Well, lets just say it is as good as Thundercats has ever been. All of the colors are crisp and sharp, the lines are dark, but it is 20 years old. Its as good as the original masters were, but its not exactly what I'd call the ultra-crisp DVD quality we know of today. But still, these are better looking than the copies that Cartoon Network showed. You can tell that these are undoctored, as they even have the fade out/fade in scene transitions for where the commercials go.
Sound:
Its just a little quiet. But then again, most DVDs are a little quiet for me, so it could just be my DVD player. Other than that, all the sound is nice and crisp, no background noise, its DVD quality for the original sound masters.
Overall:
Damn my retrojunkiness, I'm practically giddy over this, watching such high quality episodes and all that, I already can't wait for Volume 2 :D
