I just saw a commercial from McDonalds...a grandma is serving iced tea in her home, then goes in the back of the kitchen to get more, only her little grandson walks in on her pouring cups of iced tea from McDonald's cups into her big pitcher in an attempt to pass it off as her own. Then the grandma bribes her grandson with a huge sucker saying, "You can keep this a little secret, can't you?"

The commercial also says, "Introducing McDonald's sweet tea...the southern taste your grandma used to make! Now $.99 for a 32-ounce!"

I wanted to laugh at this, I did, but all I could do was roll my eyes in disbelief. McDonald's is acting as if iced sweet tea is the newest trend in food along with Passion tea and chai lattes. And I don't care if they hire Wolfgang Puck, McDonalds can NEVER EVER EVER compare to my beloved grandma's cooking! How dare they assume that! Nevertheless, I don't like sweet tea. I only like my iced tea with a little sugar or honey and more lemon. It is a very popular drink, especially here in Virginia, but it's just not for me. Just thinking about the taste makes me gag! It seems like the days of merrily skipping into McDonald's for a happy meal, orange drink, and an ice cream cone are long gone.

Sorry, I had to let it out!

Oh yeah DEFINTELY!, you know my feelings on this subject!

I could seriously write an entire dissertation tearing the new slogans and mascots like "I'm lovin' it" a new one!

I remember growing up in the early 80's how rare it was for a McDonald's restraunt to be around and how much classier it was compared today where they're competing for Starbucks for world domination! Any time a large business goes CORPORATE that business immediatly has jumped the shark! :x

What I love about McDonald's that is LONG gone:

Quality fast food (anyone remember those cookies they used to have? Plus the hamburgers didn't have tofu in them unlike today! :P )

Funny, creative, and even heartwarming commercials (see the commercials section for more)

Lovable and timeless mascots (Mayor Mcheese and Hamburglar own my soul! )

Competent employees (need I say more? )

Excellent merchandise tie-ins (a few of my favorites being the Super Mario Brothers, Fraggle Rock, Transforming food/robots, Mac Tonight, etc. that I all still have in my office! :D

    As for today's McDonald's ba-da-ba-ba-ba I'm HATIN it!

I also agree with McDonald's jumping the shark. They've been sucking ever since they went ghetto in the 2000's. Is it really true that their burgers have tofu in them?

What's with McDonald's? Back in the early-mid 90's, I loved to go there and get a happy meal with a toy especially Halloween. Christmas too.

Today, it's not really the food that bothers me, it's the commercials and enviornment that bothers me. What happened to great commercials like these? Lindsay.

Today, McDonald's is nothing but another staple of this world called the 2000's with commercials like the ultra hip "I'm Lovin' It". Well it makes me wanna hate it! My nearby McDonald's just renovated at the beginning of the year. It made me want to cry because it used to be very 70's, 80's, and 90's. Now it's just 00's.

I agree with that! I also hate the commercails about exercising.

Actually, I think its a good thing that they're doing iced tea now.
Why? I was just in Chicago on business a few weeks ago, and I couldn't find sweet iced tea to save my life. It was either unsweet, or "raspberry" tea.

God knows you can't sweeten tea after its ice cold, the sweetener just won't dissolve, and the raspberry tea was just... weird.

Knowing that I can get a big cup of tea from McDonalds is a good thing for me, cuz I love my tea. As is, the only good fast food place to get good iced tea at is Hardee's (thats a Carl Johnson Jr's for y'all northern folk), and those aren't as easy to find as a McDonald's.

Unfortunately, there aren't either of those where I live on the west coast. :(

I don't have a problem with McDonalds serving iced tea, but I thought it was funny because they made a big deal out of it, like it's the newest food trend.

Don't they have Jack-In-The-Box in California? The last time I went there was in 1998 when I visited Los Angeles. Is the food still decent?

Yeah, there are numerous Jack in the Box's where I live. Like all fast food places of today, the food ain't what it used to be but it's decent. I've also noticed that there has been a huge drop-off in attendance since those customers got a bloody stool from food poisioning there a few years back.

Not to mention the mad cow infected beef thing as well.
Remind me never to eat at a Jack in the Box, as it seems every time you hear of some horrible disease in a fast food resteraunt, its a Jack in the Box thats got it.

Since tofu is more expensive than McDonald's can probably buy beef, I doubt this the case.

Oh yes, horrible, horrible tofu. Trust me, it's a whole lot healthier than anything else at Mc D's. However, this is from their site:

"McDonald's hamburgers are made with 100% beef - no additives or fillers- and seasoned only with salt and pepper."

And they also buy their meat from American farmers (or whatever country they're based in)... and they claim to feed their cattle grain and soy, so that would mostly eliminate mad cow factors (but it might explain the tofu rumor!)

But enough pointless research that no one will believe for a second!

Anyway, who knows, maybe iced tea is the next big thing... people were probably asking for it, so they implemented it. I'm still confused as to why McDonald's still doesn't serve hot dogs or pizza... It is not fast enough?

BTW, I'm a "northern folk" and I've heard of Hardee's, but never EVER heard of Carl Johnson Jr's... WTF is that?!

Its a Hardees with a differant name on the sign. Thats it. I typically start seeing them after crossing the Kentucky border heading north.
