I personally can't decide a date but here are all the crionicles of nick's downfall:
Late 1994: Doug is canceled/ended.
Mid 1996: Doug is sold to disney but sadly but truely the disney doug was more popular in fact it was so popular it got books and a movie.
November 1996: Rocko and Ren and Stimpy and both canceled/ended.
Early 1998: Slaut your shorts no longer aired reruns.
March 1999: Nick screws up All That by firing the most talented actors to put the most no talent actors on this show in fact the actors they hired in 1999 are so untalented that they should of canceled it 7 years ago yet they waited till 05 to cancel it.
Late 1999: All of the old nick shows like Rocko, Ren and Stimpy, Real Monsters, Old All That eppys, Family Double Dare, GUTS, Wild and Crazy kids, Tiny Toons, Looney Tunes, Garfield, Nick Arcade, Legends of the hidden temple and Inspector Gadget disappear without notice.
Mid 2000: Are you afraid of the dark is removed.
April 2000: Kenan and Krl is canceled/ended.
November 2000: Nick announced that Catdog was gonna be discontinued.
March 2001: The Angry Beavers gets canceled.
Late 2001: Catdog is truely canceled.
Mid 2002: Invader Zim get canceled meanwhile it still had potentially strong ratings and worldwide fan popularity.
Summer 2003: The overdosing on current nicktoons becomes a bad habit.
Early 2004: All That get screwed up more than it already has.
Fall 2004: Unfabulous makes it's way to nick.
Feburary 2005: Nickelodeon starts to jump the shark more than it already has.
Feburary 2005: Nick announed nicktoons is gonna become ad-supported.
September 23 2005: Nicktoons becomes Nicktoons Network and it gets an ugly new look and all the crappy nicktoons like My dad the rockstar and Martain Mystery make there way over to nicktoons.
November 2005: Nick GAS gets rid of pumping gas, scardey camp and all it's other fine programming to make room for repetetivity.
Janurary 2006: All of the classics nicktoons such as Rocket Power, Action League NOW, Real Monsters, The Wild Thornberries, Doug and mostly all the other classics still remaining get replaced with addition repeats of Martain Mystery, My dad the rockstar and Kaput and Zosky.
And beyond Jan 2006 doesn't look too good it seems nicktoons network is gonna have origina; shows.

I quit watching Nick after I could no longer see Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, Fifteen, Welcome Freshmen, and pre-Amanda All That.

Those are Nicktoons? I've never heard of them!

That's a very good list, but I had a hard time reading it. The truth is oh so painful :?

I'll probably start a flaming war for this, but IMHO, I never really cared much for a certain sea creature (or kitchen utensil) who uses a certain "Hawaiian delicacy" as his homebase. I don't know why so many kids find him so popular. To me, he's just, as my late grandmother would say, "Corny as Kansas in August."

            You're wrong.

Heck, they showed Rocket Power and Ren & Stimpy on Nick this afternoon, iirc.

Weekdays on Nick are tolerable to an extent, but the weekends... the mornings are alright, but afternoon is complete CRAP. Can't even find ANYTHING to watch.

And don't get me started on nicktoons network. At first I was like "LOLz I can watch all my favs again :D", for the most part, *rrrrrrrrrrrnt.* For that, I'd have to be up around 3-9AM or so. No thanks.

There are some exceptions, eg: Rocko showing between 5-6pm or 6-7pm depending on the night. Also Angry Beavers are on around 1PM on weekdays. But yes, they overplay Martin Mystery, My Dad the Rock Star (and to think this show is better than even MM, now that's sad), and this bull called Kappa Mikey. I don't think it ever showed on regular Nick.

For me it was after Invader Zim got cancelled. I loved that show. But I still get to watch it because I have a channel on my television that is dedicated to Nicktoons.

The moment Nick went down is when they started taking away quality programs like Are you afraid of the Dark, Legends of the hidden temple, round house, The adventures of pete and pete and Doug... It hit FLATLINE status when they started introducing crap like My cousin skeeter, Spongebob square pants, Angry beavers, cat dog and rocket power.

THANKS ALOT NICK CEO'S .... YOU KILLED QUALITY T.V. AND REPLACED IT WITH TENNYBOPPER BULLSHIT

IMO, when I watched Nick just for watching the shows, I never really noticed a downfall in quality. I watched it just like it was an ordinary channel all the way up to early 2003. That's when I re-discovered Nick classics on the internet on forums and stuff and wondered "why Nick isn't showing them anymore?". That's when I stopped watching Nick for enjoyment and more for "when's the next classic show gonna air?" I remember being REALLY steamed at Nick during that time. But now, I think buisness is buisness. Nick needs to move with the time, reinventing itself and putting new shows on the schedule for new viewers.

But, looking back in the Nickelodeon history, as of now, I think it was around the time of the 20th birthday bash in mid-late 1999 when Nick started to really go downhill. Recently, I got a copy of some of the Birthday Bash, and I was shocked to see that Nick was really similar to "current Nick". Also, that was when Nick started to get into the "music scene" that lasted on the network from 1999-2003. Looking at the typical schedule for mid-1999, it lacked many gameshows, which had been moved over to the GAS Channel (which was another attribute to Nick's downfall). The only "classics" at the time were shown on Sunday afternoons and that was it. Nick began to get into merchandizing at that time also.

But, also imo, compared to 2003 or 2004, Nick has started to shape-up with programming - making things a bit more balenced with Nicktoons and live-action. They've begun to aquire movies to play on the network, which is another plus. Ofcourse we're going to get the minus', but at least they ARE improving a bit.

I stopped watching Nickelodeon around the time they started airing Catdog and the Wild Thornberries. I remember thinking to myself, "Man, these shows are BORING." And since the classic Nicktoons were over (excluding the disappointing revival of Rugrats), there was pretty much no reason to watch anymore, and I resigned myself to MTV and Comedy Central, joining the rest of my age demographic. The only time I ever returned to Nick was to watch Invader Zim, but history seems to repeat itself...

Yes, most of the time I couldn't stand Wild Thornberries. D:<

Oh and today, they showed Hey Arnold and the Angry Beavers on their "retro hour."

Nick used to be great. I'd watch all their shows on the weekends for hours. I saw it fall about late 2001, it really got dumb after that point.
And they got rid of Double Dare last November on GAS.
I can't stand this channel anymore.

In 2001 or 2002, when many of their great Nicktoons were given the boot.

I think Nick went down hill in the Sept of 97 when Snick got a new lineup there was no Are you Afraid of the Dark , Space Cases, or The Secret world of Alex Mack (which was moved to Tues & Thurs night) . When these show went off Snick it was the beginning of the end for Nick. Even though these shows were replaced be Rugrats, Allen Strange, and The Phil Silvers shows it was the same All That still remained but that too was changing has well. After the change of Snick then I started to notice Nick Toons going off the air Ren & Stimpy was the first and Doug with Rocko's Modern Life and Real Monsters. I said to myself why Nick why are you doing this to the viewers. By 2001 Nick ws totally different to me and it lost everything that I grow up watching which was it's creative, humor , fun, and excitement. 97 the year of the downfall of Nick what a bummer.

Kappa Mikey was never shown on regular nick it is a nicktoons network orignal series but that horrible Martain Mystery and My dad the rockstar have been shown on regular nick before.
