Did you import any clips into your movie? You have to do that in order to select them.

You could generate a picture file that says that, then import it into the first five seconds of the movie file, unless you meant to, say, place it while the clip is playing.

what's wrong with dragging and dropping the audio file into the audio bar in your storyline?

(either that or it needs to be imported first I forgot)

Here are a few questions I have in mind because i'm kinda struggling on how to put sound into my movie when using movie maker:
1.) Lets say your movie is 5:39 in length. However from 0:40 to 1:12 you wanna add a song. The song length is 6:02 however you only wanna put the song part from 0:39 to 1:10 in your film. How would you do that?
2.) It seems to me that movie maker doesn't support itunes and limewire. If I make a playlist in itunes of music and burn it onto a cd than put the sound files from the cd into a folder would movie maker support it?
3.) Lets say your movie is 5:39 in length. From 0:00 to 0:04 you don't want music/sound than from 0:05 to 1:22 you want music/sound and from 1:23 to 1:57 you don't want music/sound again. Is it possible you can do that?

the only thing I can think of is to use Audacity to edit out whatever you don't need in the song to make it last 32 seconds, then import it into windows movie maker

I'll guess that as long as you get the files to be mp3, wma, or wav you should be able to import it. Again, use Audacity to convert your song(s) to mp3 or wav.

edit out the sound from 0:00 to 0:04 (quiet it), and once again, use Audacity to edit your song to whatever you need, then import it into the project

To move a clip on the storyboard/timeline

                                        1. On the storyboard/timeline, select the clip you want to move.
                                        2. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
                                        3. Do one of the following, depending on which view you are working in:
                                          • On the storyboard, click the next empty cell.
                                          • On the timeline, move the playback indicator to the point where you want to paste the clip.
                                        4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
To select multiple clips, hold down the CTRL key and click each clip that you want to cut.
As an alternative to using the menu commands to cut and paste one or more clips, you can also use the mouse to cut and paste. To do this, hold down the CTRL key and click each clip that you want to move, and then drag the selected clip to the new location on the storyboard/timeline. When you move clips by using the mouse, a square appears to indicate that the file or clip is being moved.

To nudge a clip on the timeline

                                        1. On the timeline, select the clip on the Video track, Audio/Music track, or Title Overlay track that you want to move slightly.
                                        2. Do one of the following, depending on which way you want to move the clip:
                                          • To move the clip slightly to the left on the timeline, on the Clip menu, click Nudge Left.
                                          • To move the clip slightly to the right on the timeline, on the Clip menu, click Nudge Right.
