I think that what we tend to overlook in these situations is how many times they get it *wrong*. When you're litterally filling hundreds of thousands of pages with wacky material, pure chance says that occassionally you'll get one right.

Those are pretty cool stories. I remember reading the story with the ping pong balls as a reprint sometime in the 80's, but that first story is just amazing.

It just goes to show you that sometimes the best person to solve a problem is someone who hasn't been studying the problem for a long time.

It's okay. Usually I consider Donald Duck a nudist because even though he wears a towel after bathing, that's like Marcie and Peppermint Patty's alabi for not being lesbians is Charlie Brown.
