I checked the archives and the only previous thread on graduation that I could find was about graduating from grade to grade in middle school...
I've got a post-graduate graduation coming up in few weeks time. I graduated last year but because I completed an Honours degree I will be graduating AGAIN this year.
Has anyone else here attended their graduation from college or university? I remember being all excited about it last year - one last hoorah with the guys and gals I'd spent so many trying times with and with whom I'd shared my greatest victories and most bitter failures (actually I didn't have any failures thank Christ...) However, the actual graduation ceremony was a tedious, pompous and lack lustre affair...and, we couldn't even throw our mortar boards into the air like on TV because they are both expensive and the sharp edges might have caused an injury.
The thing is, in my particular department you "have" to attend these things as a mark of respect to your professors...On the other hand, my room mate at ANU who was Chinese said that at her graduation in Beijing, there were sooooo many students that the graduates just filed past a photographer whilst wearing their gowns and holding up their parchment. I think I prefer the latter...
So what was graduation like for you? Were you happy to go? Did you even care in the end? Was it the single most important day of your life? Did it bore you shitless? And if you haven't attended uni or haven't yet graduated, do you dream of the day you'll get a piece of paper and wear a silly gown in front of your peers?
