Who here has ever heard of the Lyman twins, who are identical twin sisters named Flo and Kay and are idiot-savants and fans of Dick Clark (his famous catchphrase was, "For now, I'm Dick Clark, so long!" heard at the end of every American Bandstand episode)?
Their journey was showcased on a recently-aired Discovery Health special.
They were born on June 2, 1956 somewhere in NJ, but because they were idiot-savants, they had a tough childhood. Their fascination with Dick Clark began when the two had initially seen him on American Bandstand, but more importantly, when he was a host of the Pyramid series of gameshows, his tenure spanning the years 1973-1988.
When their parents died in 1988 (the twins were then aged 32), they turned not only to their younger sister (who died in 2005 from complications of a stroke) but also to the unlikeliest of all personages: a local FL news anchor named Dave Wagner, who would be their guardian angel.
The twins kept track not only of various dates and other things in their lifetime, but also of all the different color suits Dick had worn on every episode of the Pyramid series, as well as all the clues he'd given to the contestants within.
They both had a breakdown, when in late 1995 when USA Network pulled the plug on reruns of The $100,000 Pyramid (this version, with Dick, had originally aired in primetime syndication from 1985-1988). Undeterred, the twins would stop at nothing to meet up with Mr. Clark.
They finally saw Dick on TV again through the New Year's Rockin' Eve specials he played host to. However, they broke down once again when they learned Dick had suffered a stroke that could possibly kill him.
And more recently, they finally got the chance to see Dick, not only on the Hollywood Walk of Fame but also in person, at his personal residence.
