I noticed while watching the television show Dog the Bounty Hunter that he refers to lots of people as his "bra".

I think that this is just Hawaiian talk for "bro".

Am I right in thinking this? Does anyone know exactly what this means?

I think I've heard it being used before. Perhaps it has something to do with a regional accent.

As for 'Hawaiian talk' I have no clue.

        It is.

Another common Hawaiian speech trait is to say 'ya' at the end of every question, just like a cartoon Russian puts 'no' at the end of every question.

"Eh bra, you goin' to buy more beer, ya?"

The correct spelling is "brah", and it's best used when following the word "dude".

I thought it was the french people that put the "no" at the end of every question :?

"Brah" is mostly used for other guys. I've never heard a girl referred to as a brah. It's popular amongst the type of people that pop the collar on their polo shirt, and wear boatshoes.

who defines what the correct spelling is? It's a bastardization of a word. Spelling of that bastardization is open to interpretation. That's like telling Snoop Dogg that there's a right way and a wrong way of spelling 'bizzle'.
